@nvelpc2 Ahh, no, you'd have to do that manually by running a command that enqueues a job with a delay 🤔

I still don't know any other web development technology that allows to move as fast as rails. Great improvements in the whole DX in rails 8 @rosapolis and @jorgemanru. Thank you.

I'm productionizing an app that I prototyped couple of weeks ago. I started with the barebones rails application, and I deployed it to fly.io, and an hour ago I switched to using postgres, solid_queue, and mission-control_jobs and it's working like a charm.

@rosapolis @MichaelDChaney But Peter did just that. He could've wrote a tweet saying that he thinks the article is incorrect, etc and nobody would've cared. But he rather started the whole thing with people shouldn't let DHH be in the Rails ecosystem and folks going to Rails World support this and that.

This is the best. You shit on a DHH article, because for whatever reason you don't like the guy. Other folks point out that maybe you are wrong and then you delete the tweet.

@GregMolnar @MichaelDChaney It's not about thick skin, but about what you're trying to get. I think learning about and considering other point of views or opinions different from yours can't be done if these opinions are thrown at you like attacks 🤔 at least it doesn't work for me

@GregMolnar @MichaelDChaney There's history behind everything 🤔 I think it's not productive to approach conversations like this, personally, with the mentality of "this is such group or such group". But that's just me. I think this is the longest opinion I've shared here 😅

Even though I agree that it isn't a nice comment, but I think there is history behind it. For instance, I was called a "openly racist" by Brandon Weaver because I don't agree with him on hiring based on gender, race or sexual orientation. Unfortunately there is a group in the community who calls others nazis, etc if there is a disagreement and they are the ones usually starting these discussions.

@GregMolnar @MichaelDChaney Yes, time will tell! Threads feels like something completely different, though 😅 I personally hate it; it's full of rage-bait posts for me 😆 Also, for me, Twitter hasn't felt like a good place to have discussions for a long time because they tend to get super aggressive 😞

Hopefully, it will stay like that. But my worry is that platform will end up like mastodon and threads, with a group of people reporting on things they don't agree with and getting folks shadow banned or blocked. The idea behind BlueSky is great, but there is a reason Jack cut ties with them. But time will tell I guess.

@GregMolnar @MichaelDChaney In the screenshot you posted above, the worst for me (and something I haven't seen in bsky so far) is the last one that mentions "hysterical outbursts" and "us vs them nazis" because that's just an insulting comment IMHO, and doesn't contribute anything to the discussion 🤔

@GregMolnar @MichaelDChaney FWIW, I participated in a discussion about this in bsky, and it was very far from a complete agreement. Very good arguments were made from different sides and points of view, all respectful and agreeable. So far, I'm having quite interesting discussions over there 🤷🏻‍♀️

Do you use any an alternative to concurrent-ruby that provides absrtractions for asynchronous task execution (a-la Future.execute, zip) in ruby 3.3, but that take advantage of M:N scheduler and per-ractor GVL?

@GregMolnar Ahhhh I’d love to attend but my problem is the lack of vacation days to make it to all conferences I want to go to. For weekdays, I need to take vacation and I have limited PTO. If it was on Friday + Saturday, then I’d go for sure, but Thursday + Friday is trickier 😭

I am thinking of organizing a Ruby conference. We already have a lot of great ones, but I live at a beautiful place, that has good connections from North-America and Europe so I think it would be an ideal spot for a conference. I found a great venue and I have mid-April(17-18) or early-May(8-9) as potential dates. It would be 2 days and the ticket prices would be 200 euros. The location would be in Furnas, on Sao Miguel island of the Azores. There are direct flights from Toronto, Montreal, New York, London, Paris, Lisbon, Bilbao, Brussels, Barcelona, Frankfurt(and maybe more). The venue can hold a little over a 100 people, so there would be 100 tickets for sale. Without sponsors, it would need to be very close to a sell out to not lose any money with just the basics(no recording of talks, etc). The question is, is there any interest in yet another Ruby event? I would need to volunteer a lot of my time to the organization, so I am on the fence if it even makes sense to start. Would you mind giving a vote, but only if you are confident you would attend. Thank you!

@jpcamara Yes! Exactly that, which happened when we hadn't decided anything about the default behaviour; it was still early. In the end, Rails Core position with enqueuing after all transactions have committed + SQLite becoming the default, etc., led us to ship with separate DBs by default

Finishing out this thought - @rosapolis could confirm, but after watching her rails world talk it seems like the overhead of concurrency controls in the design led them to move into a separate DB instance as default behavior youtu.be/sEv2AYJiz1U?si…

@jpcamara I'm not too familiar with Solid Queue yet, but would like to be. Can you point me to the place in docs where they recommend not sharing your database? I could make a context-dependency case for not sharing, but I'm curious what their stated rationale is.

@jnunemaker @jpcamara @brandur Oops, I'm only seeing this now! I'm of the same opinion and have some specific use cases where enqueuing within the transaction would be just perfect. That was the idea with HEY but unfortunately we had to switch to separate DBs due to write volume (big app) (1/2)

Curious for your perspective @brandur on the SolidQueue recommendation to not share your queue db and primary db. I understand the scaling concerns, but I know River describes sharing the db and transactions as a virtue (which I agree with)
