@headius Wow that's wild. I can assure you that did not happen for SF Ruby - we all very much respect your work and think JRuby is awesome 💚

Call me paranoid, but I'm starting to see signs that there's folks actively sabotaging my work on JRuby... advising conferences not to accept my talks and projects to drop JRuby support. So disheartening to me after dedicating so many years to the Ruby and JRuby communities. 😢

Rails people, is Inertia Rails the real future of the frontend on Rails? I am hearing this more and more.

@schwabsauce @bradgessler @lucianghinda @mscccc @jaredpalmer @github I see the allure, and perhaps when the dust settles GitHub will have an app that its hundreds of engineers can more easily contribute to. I also wonder about the many things the company could have built instead, and all the existing systems they could have maintained better.

One of my intentions with the Short Ruby Newsletter was to create an archive for these types of discussions. So, next time someone suggests that Rails might be the problem at GitHub, here are two people who can confirm it was not.

@bradgessler @github Right. Frameworkism, especially on the front-end, isn't delivering. As Alex Russell says, the answer isn't a new framwork; it's the courage to do engineering.

Some interesting history on how @github ended up with React in their stack. I've been in similar situations where I didn't want to say "No" to a team under the "use the right tool for the job" doctrine. I've since learned to say "No, a new framework won't solve the problem"

Yo @joinsimplify! I had to click no less than *449 times* to go back far enough to enter my birthdate. That feels like too many times? Probably should let me use my keyboard #protip

Yo @RavensburgerNA, is it normal to have 65 (!!) duplicate pieces?? They made this already challenging 1000 piece puzzle (Bizarre Bookshop 2) much more difficult. But more concerning... is there some poor soul out there trying to put together their copy missing 65 pieces??

@keithschacht Finally, convincing people to switch to another templating language is always a tough sell. For example, the tooling around ERB, Slim, HAML, etc is way better than Rux. But also, all you really get from it is nicer-looking templates. Most people don't care.

@keithschacht Some additional thoughts in no particular order: 1. I have some local changes I've been meaning to push up. 2. I'm working on another project that uses Rux. 3. Rux works (at least in dev) by monkeypatching Ruby internals, which always made me hesitant to recommend it.

@camertron What ever happened with your Rux project? It’s a cool concept but looks like there’s been no activity for the past year. Any reflection on what worked/didn’t work with it in order to gain more widespread use of something like it?
