A raíz del interés que generó el tweet de @manuelernestog sobre como probar una nueva laptop twitter.com/manuelernestog… Que era solo en Windows... pues aquí va la versión #GNU & #Linux del asunto. Busca cafecito y galletas 😅 para mientras lees y tomas notas. 🧵👀👇 1/x

@no_stp_on_snek BTW: Can you recommend any repo to test this advances with llama.cpp on linux on a simple Intel i7 1255u with Vulkan accelaration? Shitty hardware for AI, I know, but a few benchmarks on limited hardware won't hurt.

ha, i am definitely not worthy of that comparison. but the parallel is real. open source is magic when you get out of the way and let people run with it. i put the paper out, and within a day people i'd never met had it running on hardware i don't even own. that's not me, that's the community. also i'm not at the stage of telling everyone their code is shit yet. give it time.

@no_stp_on_snek The cross pollination of ideas of the community + the free/open source code in between that made that possible = progress. Long life to the Free and Open Source Software, and the community around it.

@byte_thrasher Do RC charge / discharge timing. Drive pin high to charge, C. Then, time how long it takes to discharge to go low. Adjust RC values per rev.

I want one of my PCBs to be able to report its revision number to the MCU. I can dedicate exactly one pin to this task. What is the cheapest and easiest way to do this? Let's assume 20 revs (lol). First idea that comes to mind is a simple voltage divider. Might be good enough

@AnasYMalas @byte_thrasher I did this one time: 2^n bit per n pins. It's just pull ups/downs and read the value during initialization on only output pins, just chose pins who's workloads loads don't represent a load on the init process. I used just 3 pins, so 8 combinations, ended using 5 combinations.

@byte_thrasher If you have MCU output data pins that go into pure inputs that dont drive the lines, you could have a series of pull ups and pull downs on those pins. During initialization you could read the binary bits before enabling those pins as outputs, just DNP either resistor on each line

@straceX Or when you are programing a tiny micro-controller and RAM is measured in 10th of kb... I learned that the hard way with arduino, using that trick since a few years now: Adding a var to the struct: the code fit in the space, removing it, the code won't fit WTF !?

For one struct, Who cares. But if you are building a game or a high-performance system with an array of 10 million of these objects, you just saved 40 Megabytes of RAM just by pressing Cut and Paste on your variable names.

The compiler silently injects invisible, dead bytes between your variables so that the next variable lines up perfectly with the CPU's natural chunks. In struct Bad, it adds 3 dead bytes after a, and 3 more after c. You are losing 6 whole bytes to absolutely nothing.

@TheCinesthetic Yep, remember seeing it at the time, "good old" sci-fi. You flipped a memory switch here, now I have the temptation to re-watch it!

En el inglés conversacional se usa "everyone and their mother" para decir de manera exagerada que había mucha gente en un lugar: 🔊*Everyone and their mother* came to the party. ¿Existe una versión coloquial en español?

@yo23chan Yep, put ferrites everywhere. They help, I have a specially noisy env at home and ferrites up on the ATU end (Icom AT-130) on the roof and also on a pigtail on the Radio end helped alot. Remember any long wire (even coax jacket) is a Marconi antenna
