I met today with the founder of Starcloud and I realized this is going to be one of the biggest engineering projects of our era. When you look at the tradeoffs, it seems inevitable that all the GPUs are going to live in space.

This isn’t really a surprise…many many people don’t like politicians. But it’s a surprise seeing it come out as the underlying reason being stated to AOC from some of her supporters who also voted Trump. @couriernewsroom/post/DCPOp3-x_eW?xmt=AQGzaTRx04gx9UYdG9elwzv_YMkX4g0LuqQW6mJaP7iulA" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">threads.net/@couriernewsro

Can solar power meet AI-driven data center demands? 🌞 @ExowattP3 CEO @HaPi31415 thinks so, with a $20M Seed round backed by @a16z, @JoinAtomic & @sama. Their tech captures & stores solar heat & transforms it into electricity on demand—going beyond PV & lithium-ion storage. Enjoyed chatting with @ZachBDell of @basepowerco recently in Houston. Texans have experienced significant reliability issues with power of late due to increased extreme weather events such as Hurricane Beryl. Base is helping homeowners get home a reliable, low cost battery backup, with an interesting biz model. mcj.vc/my-climate-jou…

"The cost to create power has gone down pretty dramatically over the last decade... but the cost to move it—transmission and distribution—has gone up. If you've lived anywhere in the country, your power has gotten more expensive." @ZachBDell, CEO @basepowerco New LIVE pod! @codysimms & Zach discussed distributed energy, Texas’ aging grid, & more in Houston. Feels like the narrative that "nobody wants all of these EVs" might have hit its nadir. Are we through the trough of disillusionment as we move into mainstream adoption?

Going into the conversation in Houston with Vicki Hollub at Oxy, I didn't know what to expect. I had never met with an oil and gas CEO before. I didn't know exactly what opinions she had with respect to climate change. I didn't know how she thought about the energy transition and the role of oil and gas in our future energy mix (spoiler quote from her from the episode: "So the energy transition is, in my view, not a transition away from oil and gas. It's a transition to a lower carbon world. So, that leaves open all technologies. That leaves open even a path for oil and gas to continue to be produced as long as it can become carbon-neutral.") I did know that Oxy is doing a lot in direct air capture and is arguably the early market leader in that space, but I wasn't sure how she thought about those efforts as it relates to their oil business or the carbon markets. We covered all of this and more. I did not expect to hear some of what she shared, and I feel like I have more homework to do to fully understand the implications of their plan. But regardless, it was a packed discussion. I hope you enjoy it and learn something from it, as I did.

Last month, we hosted a live conversation with @WeAreOxy CEO, Vicki Hollub. @codysimms & Vicki cover a lot of ground. She acknowledges climate change & its effects on extreme weather & natural ecosystems, while also stating that Oxy doesn't view the energy transition as a shift away from oil & gas. 🎙️ Listen to the full episode: mcj.news/vhollub
