You can try ConateApp in your browser right now! (no download needed). conateapp.com - “Try it before you download” Screenshot of the mockup friends/chat preview attached. Thoughts?

@glazworks There isn't enough data from my beta testers yet to confirm how the latency feels. Other models I experimented with include rnnoise and LiveKit's Krisp, but neither was a good fit for my software, and Krisp is out of budget range at this stage.

@conateapp running noise suppression in an AudioWorklet to keep it off the main thread is the right call. how's the latency feel in real-time calls, and did you evaluate any other models before going with DeepFilterNet3?

Just shipped DeepFilterNet3 neural noise suppression to ConateApp's voice chat! Keyboard clicks, background noise, all gone. 🥳 Running entirely in an AudioWorklet so it never touches the main thread. The difference is night and day 🎙️ #devlog #indiedev #buildinpublic

There are currently 223 people signed up for early access at conateapp.com !! Right now we're entering a beta testing phase to make sure everything is working out correctly and when I'm ready i will start the onboarding phase for people signed up at the waitlist. I'm very excited about this milestone in the development!

@conateapp AudioWorklet is the right call. Keeping noise suppression off the main thread means zero UI jank even under heavy processing. Users won't notice the tech but they'll absolutely notice the quality jump.

I’m not quite happy with the voice chat quality yet. It works, but it’s not there for me. So I’m putting everything else on pause and focusing hard on refined audio logic the next few days. My goal is to make ConateApp’s voice feel legitimately one of a kind, super smooth, low latency, and just better than everything else. (Still keeping it stupidly light of course). What would make voice chat actually feel special to you? 👇 #devlog #indiedev #discordalternative

Did you know every private message in ConateApp is encrypted on your device before it even hits the server? ConateApp offers proper E2EE. Not even I (the guy building it) can read your DMs. #devlog #indiedev #e2ee

Working on deep links for conateapp.com today. Soon you’ll be able to click any ConateApp link (invite, server, DM, whatever) and it just opens straight in the app!

I just got local noise suppression working and it’s still under 3 MB RAM. So tell me, what’s the ONE feature you’d want most in a lightweight Discord alternative? Push-to-talk? Screen share? in-game overlay? Custom bots? Something else? Drop it below 👇

Quick update: Just got Enhanced Noise Suppression working, it runs RNNoise (open-source AI) locally on top of the browser’s built-in stuff. No extra bloat. Still sitting under 3 MB RAM while running a test voice call. Not perfect yet but it’s actually starting to feel usable.

My first app isn’t working as expected. Conversion is harder than it looks. Instead of giving up, I’ll figure it out and adapt. The key: don’t quit.

@VoidArchitectWF Same, the trust issues after losing an account are the worst. ConateApp is built with proper end-to-end encryption so that can’t happen the same way + it runs at just 2.6 MB idle. Screenshot in my profile if you wanna see.

I dont know if I wanna go back on discord. After losing the acc I did have, its mainly just a trust issue for me at this point. I'll need to do some thinking and digging for better alternatives. May DM close friends to find a better alternative for those to connect with me. <3

@SanDiskSDCard0 @iyoushetwt I feel this 😂 But you shouldn’t need a 2000s laptop + Linux just to run chat without killing your RAM. ConateApp runs at 2.6 MB idle on normal modern hardware with voice/text on. Screenshot in profile.

@iyoushetwt Instead buy a laptop from the late 2000s that has 2GB of ram and use Linux on it. I can use discord on it, and burn/read dvds/cds

@iHuntDads @GenAI_is_real Haha same, I got so tired of that 900MB+ background tax. ConateApp is at 2.6 MB idle right now… while both apps are doing literally nothing. Screenshot attached if you’re curious.

unpopular opinion: 16GB is plenty if software engineers actually cared about memory efficiency. chrome eating 4GB for 12 tabs is not a hardware problem its a software disgrace. docker consuming 2GB idle is not a feature its laziness. we live in an era where people optimize every single token to save $0.001 on API costs but happily ship electron apps that eat 500MB to display a todo list. if the industry treated RAM the way we treat inference compute - obsessively measuring every byte - 16GB would feel luxurious. the hardware isnt the problem, the software is @adxtyahq
