Racist crank can't even get basic facts about the project right (Senakw is not a Musqueam project) Probably engagement bait but it's getting really bad out here. The units are not exclusively for Indigenous people, this project benefits the entire city
Jim McMurtry@JimMcMurtry01

The wealthy 1500-member Musqueam tribe, which claims all of Vancouver, is building 11 towers (some 56 stories) on an 11.7-acre waterfront site. This density breaks all the rules, but when you’re a court-supported racial oligarchy, you can do anything.

Begging YIMBYs to develop a sense of political economy. If you want renters to support your policies and give you votes you should articulate policies like rent stabilization that benefit them NOW immediately while the supply policies take effect. Renters are poor NOW!
Rio Veradonir@RioVeradonir

The data shows rent control has the opposite effect you’d want (and for explicable reasons). Leftists deny it by focusing on intent over results. In this sense, tariffs are the “rent control” of the New Right. Same foolish dynamic. But before MAGA, tariffs were also leftwing.

I think this is a positive way to view tribal autonomy. Only weird thing that’ll have to be addressed somehow someday is the colonial blood quantum rules for tribal membership

@goatpurple1 Bc they are governing as a separate local government. Its no different from West Hollywood governing themselves apart from LA They got that land after winning a court battle bc villages on there were illegally sold and destroyed in 1913

The Senakw project was highly revealing in how indigenous ppl are viewed They are viewed as noble savages, not as average Joes who are also bankers, lawyers, engineers, baristas, social media managers etc who can manage multi-billion dollar RE portfolios. Now THAT'S reparations

Max Dubler, AICP 🏳️‍🌈@maxdubler

The backstory here is that the Squamish people of what is now Vancouver were illegally dispossessed of this land a century ago. They sued, got their land back, and used their sovereignty to ignore local zoning rules and build 6,000 new homes over the objections of nearby NIMBYs.

Not only is this an insane overgeneralization, but its also incredibly offensive. It shows a deep misunderstanding of the Cuban experience and why millions have left or stayed. Saying that all who left are bad and all who stayed are good is simplistic and shows your ignorance.
bloom 𖧧@bloomjpg

Hasan says Cubans in Miami vs Cuba are “complete opposites” after experiencing it firsthand "All the good Cubans stayed here and the crazy ones flew up there [Miami].. It's just such a strange cognitive dissonance to experience in real time"

@actsmaniac Yeah just saying your current rhetoric is not good politics. It’s alienating to renters.

@cookiebotmonstr sure rent stabilization (e.g max 10% rent increase per year for existing tenants) is obviously not that bad. however many jurisdictions push it way too far, especially with the hard rent caps/vacancy control etc which obviously cause catastrophic outcomes

@actsmaniac I disagree with you that it has no place as a policy tool. Plenty of Yimby advocates rightly state rent control itself isn’t the main cause of supply issues and can be used alongside other renter protections and supply policy to better housing outcomes.

Basically no difference between neoliberals like this and Scientific Marxists. Believing your entire ideological outlook is based in a rational objectivity is lunacy.

@minalaifey Incredible how reading about the effects of rent control in the cities it was implemented in makes you inherently evil
