@politicianpages Love this! If you're open to it, you could make the tenure slider a Boxplot, which could help provide more insight into the percentile and relative tenures of all members. Sample below (senators), where you mark the member of interest with an X. Help your audience with math ❤️

@mrs_frommert @TheMathGuru Factoring technically solves all quadratic equations. Why wouldn't you want to know what is working behind the algebra?

@TheMathGuru Considering that factoring only solves a small portion of all quadratic equations, why spend so much time on this method?

@desmosclassroom @Amplify Curious, if there is any data from this study broken down by specific other programs the control groups used? For example how does it compare to just regular IM, knowing it is somewhat based on IM initially.

Some of the @AEF_Program Fellows will remember being in the trenches with Dr. Weld while he was creating the 5 year #stem plan and were lucky enough to be able to provide valuable input into the process. #EinsteinFellows17

Hey #math family. How would you completely factor 64x^6 - 1? I'm trying to see something... #MTBoS

@MsAlison314 I haven't taught factoring where a=1 in a long while, and I regret nothing.

What order do you teach factoring? Does anybody do factoring ax^2 before x^2 ? I’m debating on what order to do for my Algebra 1B class. #mtbos #alg1chat #iteachmath

@cwright4math @howie_hua Because when you multiply a number by a negative it gets smaller instead of biggerand vice versa for division.

What is the FIRST rule/theorem/formula that comes to mind when you think "I don't know why it works, I just memorized it" in regards to math class?

@TomKenyon1 @howie_hua That shows THAT they are equivalent, but not at all WHY they are equivalent, because I could just as easily say: -2x<4 Divide both sides by -2 x<-2 I'm wrong, but why? Your explanation doesn't go far enough to be proof.

I spent a few days in Finland recently, and got to chat with some teachers. My main takeaway, which I found so refreshing: Finnish teachers don't attribute school outcomes to schools themselves, but to the society at large.

@brynhumberstone @robertkaplinsky @ddmeyer It might be that we have the conception that a conception and a misconception are mutually exclusive concepts. Misconceptions are conceptions. Just like mistakes are takes. Misuse is use. Misappropriation, mismanagement, etc. Should we begin saying none of these exist?

@robertkaplinsky @ddmeyer It seems to me that the word “misconception” must have negative connotations that I haven’t encountered. Like maybe when I say to myself “half my class holds the misconception that the world is flat” other people hear me saying “half my class are idiots who have no useful ideas”.
