@Ander_sauro @_Ochiedike Your statement is a logical contradiction. If evolution is true, then "being good to others" is meaningless and cannot be a part of the evolutionary process. If evolution cannot be explained without this "being good to others" concept, then the concept of evolution is false.

@danlaynd @_Ochiedike Humans help each other for evolutionary reasons. We evolved as social animals, and for a long time, being good to others was essential for survival.

What else provides a source of moral guidance? I suspect the reason you're encountering this difficulty is that we tend to deconstruct everything into simple bits. Anyone studying religion, philosophy, or culture can clearly see that humans are not the most consistent beings, since they do not adhere to a single source or system in their thinking. It is always a syncretism. Yet, if you start tracing the roots of various beliefs, you will find patterns that indicate their probable sources. All of those sources will be religious in nature.

Regulating the sinful behavior of humans does not equal commanding such behavior... It is interesting that Moslims can never grasp such a simple fact of the legal system. If the law of the US states that you will be prosecuted for distribution of controlled substances, it does not mean that the US government commands people to distribute controlled substances, because the law mentions distributing such substances... I see this reasoning all the time in conversation with Moslems. I do wonder if Islam negates the ability to draw proper logical conclusions.

Reason is not infallible. It is informed by presuppositions (axioms) of the chosen thought framework aka Worldview. Thus, what is reasonable and obvious for one is a complete madness for another. Considering the subjectivity of the atheistic framework of thought, what reason can you speak of? That's why the simplest question, "What is the woman?" became such a matter of debate...
