Startup culture has become far too memetic, especially in Silicon Valley Great startup ideas are usually contrarian, otherwise, someone would have built it already How do you stay contrarian when everyone reads the same things, everyone posts the same memes about the Kardeshev scale or whatever, and everyone goes to the same AI meetups? You can ask 10 people in Silicon Valley what their heretical ideas are and they’ll all say the same predictable things

@UNDERDOGSgame solves some basic VR embodiement issues with what we call First And A Half Person - a slight separation of the player from the game world, in our case, via mech. This is the foundational idea behind UNDERDOGS. @arian_ghashghai @SandboxVR Certainly seeing that from the funding side but that’s distinct it being a good business, right? I think it’s really encouraging to see Sandbox finding solid unit economics in the model and it’s only going to get better as hardware/software increase throughput.

My inbox has had several VR LBE pitches lately. I know @SandboxVR has crushed (disclosure, I invested) but new LBEs feel like an antithetical (and borderline unviable) VR business opportunity in 2024

reason AI and mobile development get much more love and attention compared to XR related work is simply because there are open-source, readily available and low-cost pathways to becoming a homebrew enthusiast with AI and mobile dev.. More "locked-down" headsets won't change this.
