Permissioned chain = "Web2 with a token" - Mert Permissionless chain = "Web3 where the kitchen is open but the foundation controls the waitstaff - our solana experience Both sides will die on their hill. Both are right that being attacked means something. Retail, mm and institutions vote with capital, not panels. Current perps volume has permissionless losing to permissioned. Maybe that reverses. Maybe it doesn't. Not FUD current facts. Does constellation fix that? I doubt it. All these words will mostly mean nothing. The market decides.

For a random person signing up in France: Their very first timeline will likely include Trump ragebait and Silicon Valley chatter. We can’t continue to incentivize the same kind of posts forever—and not try to expand our inventory. The network will never grow. It will proceed to be a monoculture with a handful of countries rationally spamming the replies of those posts to get $30/week.

The retail thesis assumes memecoin casino degens convert to perps traders. Do they? The data doesn't support that imo, the real retail volume from memecoin traders showed up for the supercycle and went back to the sidelines. I agree on the makers side of things, it doesn't make sense to deploy on solana today, there are too many headwinds. You could make the arguement by the time Solana gets this right, agents are the dominant perps interface. They don't get onboarded. They route to deterministic ordering. That's not Solana today, and the composability premium doesn't matter much when your retail is a bot.

I’m going to go further than @nikitabier and suggest that I don’t think people should be monetized to post about politics at all. Period. It only incentivizes the creation of divisive content because divisive content baits engagement harder than the truth. Limit the monetization to creative and educational content, like AI, design, photography, art, comedy, and writing. Maybe some business/fintech/crypto but they don’t even need or ask for it and not having their reach crippled is enough.

@nikitabier What is the content "we want on X" Reviews of my local coffee shop? I'd rather have creators incentived to post about global news that impacts the macro. Suspect this gets rolled back shortly.

Starting Thursday, we'll be updating our revenue sharing incentives to better reward the content we want on X: We will be giving more weight to impressions from your home region—to encourage content that resonates with people in your country, in neighboring countries and people who speak your language. While we appreciate everyone's opinion on American politics, we hope this will disincentivize gaming the attention of US or Japanese accounts and instead, drive diverse conversations on the platform. We invite creators to start building an audience locally. X will be a much richer community when there's relevant posts for people in all parts of the world.

I don't think the issue is entitlement, its access. It's also selection criteria. When the Foundation drops a release with specific companies baked in, take the release today - Solana Developer Platform - those companies receive real, tangible value: credibility, distribution, and association. That's not the same as an influencer tweet. The question nobody's answering is: why those companies and not others? Maybe there's a good reason. Maybe there isn't. What was the selection criteria, what is it based on? Who was considered and not selected. A foundation with an ecosystem mandate owes that transparency in a way a random influencer never has to. Dismissing the criticism as projects crying about not getting their retweet misses the point entirely imo. I think we can all agree that if you need the foundation to survive, you are ngmi. If a competitor consistently gets foundation access and distribution, and othets do not, then the foundation distribution is a competitive advantage. Its a fair point to make. solana.com/news/solana-de…
Solana Sensei@SolanaSensei

I find it funny that some projects claim they hate using influencers to push their products, yet they run straight to the Solana Foundation begging for the exact same kind of exposure influencers provide. Of course, when Solana doesn’t see the ROI or value in the project, ignores them, or refuses to highlight them, they start crying, complaining, and blaming the Solana Foundation for everything. Solana’s social media marketing through the main Solana accounts works in the same way influencer accounts do lmao. They may not directly charge money for tweets, but they choose to support projects that benefit them in the long run. While the Solana Foundation is structured as a non-profit, there are still economic incentives aligned with the growth and success of the Solana ecosystem. The reality is that the engagement a project can get from a few strong Solana creators can easily match or even surpass the engagement from the main Solana account. Some people will say, “yeah, but Solana’s reputation is better, and they don’t promote scams.” I get the point, but it's just not true anymore. There have been countless projects highlighted by the Solana account, founders, or team members that later turned out to be scams. I don’t even blame them btw. If you’ve been in this space long enough, you will inevitably believe in something that ends up rugging. As more and more projects compete for Solana’s main account support or Toly’s retweets, I think projects should consider working with a few trustworthy, reputable Solana voices to push their protocols instead of focusing entirely on the Solana Foundation. The Solana Foundation used to intervene very little in publicly supporting projects back in 2021, and they didn’t even have the engagement or attention they have now. Builders used to independently build without relying on the foundation or blaming it for not gaining attention. We got here thanks to resilient OG builders who built with little SF intervention and no main account tweets. I don’t know when projects became so entitled and dependent on SF support, but I don’t think it truly helps projects in the long run. If your project’s success depends on Solana’s main account support, I’m sorry, but you will probably fail. My point is simple: exposure is exposure, and incentives are incentives. Whether it comes from a foundation, an exchange, or an influencer, the mechanics are the same. Let’s not pretend one channel is morally superior to another because tbh Solana influencers, Solana users, and the Solana Foundation are all incentivized by the same economic forces. If you focus on building something that actually creates value, third parties will naturally choose to talk about you.

Patting yourselves on the back instead of fixing what is still broken is the wrong angle here. The issue isn’t what Solana does right. If the goal is real ecosystem growth, own the uneven effort publicly, stop the vertical-trashing/PR stunts, and make the distribution firehose actually feel accessible to everyone building seriously.
vibhu@vibhu

Need to address some glaring inaccuracies in the current discourse about @Solana. Would bet a significant amount that we (at SF & as an ecosystem) do more to support founders/builders than any other network, and it’s probably not even that close. First, let’s talk about funding: - Since Jan 1, we’ve run 3 Hackathons (Privacy, Consumer/NFTs/Gaming, Agents), and Labs ran their own (Mobile), and there are many more coming including the global Solana hackathon with Colosseum. Additionally, eco teams like Ranger and Arcium recently debuted hackathons. These come with millions in prizes. - Solana builders can join @colosseum or @incubator for YC-style funding, investments, and mentorship with our direct support. Founders in Colosseum alone have gone on to raise $650 million+ in venture funding. - @Superteam is our global founder network, with thousands of members - and we just launched Superteam USA to fund and assist founders in the biggest market. Superteam is Solana family, designed for builders. - Superteam offers instagrants up to $10k + Earn which has paid out millions, YC founders building on Solana can get up to $50k extra, Kalshi x Solana has a $2m fund for prediction markets, and SF offers evergreen grants for open source & public goods with a $40k average check size. Many other teams offer grant-style funding as well, including Monke Foundry, Metaplex, Wormhole, Bonk, Seeker, etc. In total, Foundation and adjacent entities fund tens of millions collectively each year into early stage startups and builders who are advancing the network, with no equity commitments or tradeoffs - in service of growing the ecosystem. Second, let’s talk about distribution: - Foundation holds events all over the world directly, including Accelerate and Breakpoint, but also assists with funding and resources for community events like mtndao, Solana Summit, and many other hyper regional events. Our entire goal: put builders on stage, give them an audience, and then help them distribute their message. - Since Jan 1, @Solana has amplified 300+ different ecosystem companies. In fact we handle so much inbound load from teams wanting amplification that we built multiple targeted handles to do this even better, like @capitalmarkets, @solanapayments, and @x402. - Even in Gaming, we dedicate distribution resources to builders through @solanagaming, and stream games multiple times per week. - Our distribution has real impact. Last month we sent our live team to @mtndao to host Demo Day, and platformed dozens of builders by putting them on stage, livestreaming them, and then clipping their segments. One team, Tapestry, noted that after the stream they had thousands of new downloads on their mobile app. - @Luminaries, our top content creator collective, distributes stories from ecosystem builders through 50+ influencers across many different channels - We produce hundreds of high quality videos and clips per year across stories, explainers, and education that feature our ecosystem teams - SF hosts 10 regular podcasts to feature ecosystem teams, and sponsors and produces countless others, like The Index and Genfinity. In this case, we acquire media channels & time and we directly book guests from our ecosystem that have a story to tell Last year, we led all crypto networks in total impressions and engagement on X & LinkedIn. Again, I would guess it wasn't really that close. If you’re building on Solana, our firehose is yours to use. Solana is not only the best place to build, it’s the best place to win customers and build a giant business. No network has produced more multi-billion $ companies with real, sustainable businesses and moats. If we don’t know you yet and you’re here, we would love to hear from you and see how we can help. That’s quite literally our job. Don't believe everything you read on X 🫡

I guess deepends on where you are, here reviews are easily faked/bought and medical boards would rather keep things quiet versus publicly call out a bad doc, so you only really know if its not under gag order, or the person didn't settle. I dont think likeable should be category of consideration for the FDN. Can't tell how people are in person via X or code. Can't expect people to meet a foundation member in public somewhere. Language, cost and time make it exclusionary. I also think scammers perform better during in person settings and rank higher in likability anyway.

I mean, my primary care doc has reviews. And then they know other docs, and so referrals are kind of a social contract. I think it's impossible to do what you're asking, the only way to do it is to just not have a foundation. Or have multiple foundations. But at this stage certain things need to be coordinated by foundation or they won't happen at all.

I would assume bad patient history to be gated, especially in the US with confidential settlements, and privacy. Bad surgeons prob went to good schools? Is there bad schools for it? Im not trying to nit pick, I do agree overall with a few points, but when it comes to a neutral body deciding on support based, how likable someone is shouldn't be a filter imo, espoecially for the exact example you mention - scams.

@defipro Except for a surgeon you can easily measure what school they went to, their residency, and patient history. There's no such history for rando startups on Solana, and in fact a ton of them are scammers. You need to filter heavily.

No, its how somethings in the world work, sometimes. Referrals make sense for most jobs, fine, agreed, but you don't hire a surgeon based on your cousins, neighbours refferal who works in oil and gas. You don't care whether the guy difusing the bomb is likable. There are different stakes. We're talking about what is supposed to be a neutral body. It's supposed to advance the chain for all builders, not play favorites based on who vouched or who you vibe with at Breakpoint. It needs a different filter.

No, it's how the world works. It's why companies are much more likely to hire referrals. Is there a better candidate in the 10,000 people that applied? Maybe. But with limited time to review applications, you have a much higher success rate with referrals than general applicants. The fact that someone you already think is a good worker vouches for someone is a big signal. Foundation does not care about language, there are superteams basically everywhere. Claiming otherwise is a cop out. I have never seen them discriminate on religion. Also a cop out.

Its not how the world works, its how friendships work. There's a difference between the market rewarding someone it respects and a FDN silently making it a requirement for whatever "support". What if the FDN doesn't speak your language, disagrees with you politically, religiously? Humans are biased. Some of the best code ever written is probably done by people who couldn't stirng two sentences together in public.

There's really no better metric. Humans use a variety of heuristics to tell if they like (or respect) someone. As a dev, it's their code, their tweets, what things they contribute to, my conversations with them in person. All of these build a picture of whether I want to support this person. This is how the world works, if you don't like it, go build your product in isolation. It might still work, just don't expect support. I don't think I ever saw the pumpfun guys before they blew up.
