I found a set of rims that would really help, for just over $800; they’d dampen vibration a lot You don’t get rid of these, they’re Vime’s Boot’s of wheelchairs…& would help so much I’ve been told to ‘just move $$ around’/‘be grateful’; I’m on SSI 🫠 : throne.com/disabledtrans/… 🎁

Is there an innate, immutable attribute you have that some/many/almost all people regard as negative but you feel is just a part of who you are? Now imagine the country becomes so convinced it negates any value of you as person the state makes it legal for others to kill you.

“I take care of my disabled loved one & they don't ask me to mask” Well yes, 1) you, the more abled person, have more power in that relationship, 2) they need you & know that your whims determine their care, 3) If they did ask you to mask, would you treat them the same?

It’s bc of people like this that my advance directive keeps getting changed to a DNI/DNR every time I go to hospital for testing or treatment. I’m a full-time wheelchair user with genetic issues, I’ve been incontinent & may be again, I shouldn’t *want* to live & waste resources

@AberdareNic @historykev @fleurmeston I’m not sure why people find it so hard to understand that to many of us the loss of control to the point a stranger has to wipe your arse for you is utterly abhorrent and not an acceptable outcome we are willing to endure.

We understand very well what you are saying. You would rather be dead than disabled. What we don't understand is why we'd respect your demand for #assistedsuicide because of your fear when it would endanger disabled people whose lives are already devalued.

Meanwhile individuals hv been driven to MAiD by isolation, loneliness, poverty, caregiver burnout, untreated depression, inadequate access to palliative care & other services. The issue isn’t whether safeguards exist on paper. It’s whether they can b rigorously upheld in practice
Ramona Coelho@rljcoelho

Care must come first.
Alberta is aiming to restore that fundamental principle in its new MAiD bill. @mickeyamery @ABDanielleSmith

The Afroman Trial. -Cops raid Afromans house for bullshit reasons. -Steal money, break his door, fuck his house up. -No criminality found whatsoever, no charges at all pressed on Afroman. -Afroman spends the next 3 years making songs that make fun of all the officers involved by name, even using footage of the raid from his own CCTV cameras. -Songs had titles like "Randy Walters is a son of a bitch" and "Lick Em Low Lisa" accusing one of the officers of being a lesbian and sleeping with the other officers wives. -During the raid one officer looked like he was about to eat some lemon pound cake sitting on Afromans counter, Afroman made a whole album calling the officer fat. -The cops get mad and file a lawsuit for defamation. -Afroman turns up to court in a whole American flag suit. -Officers performatively mald and cry while listening to the songs really trying to oversell how badly the songs upset them. -One officer was suing because Afroman made a whole song about him saying he was fucking the officers wife. When the officer was asked if Afroman was really fucking his wife, he said "I don't know". Nuking his own case and establishing that there is a non-zero chance that Afroman might actually be fucking his wife. -As his only witness for the trial, Afroman brought a deputies EX FUCKING WIFE. -The jury ruled completely in favour of Afroman. This entire thing has been a great win for free speech and absolutely fucking hilarious.

No. Public policy is a direction, a pattern of activity, a process requiring ongoing, systemic implementation. It is not a one-time choice. A single policy can create long-term, compounding consequences that alter the fabric of society. It is not all about "personal choice."
Sarah Wootton@sarah_wootton

Dame Esther Rantzen on @BBCNewsnight says of the assisted dying Bill "it's all about choice" and she urges parliamentarians to let this compassionate law pass

Disabled don’t fake being disabled, we fake being okay all the time. Unfortunately, when most of us show our symptoms and pain from our disability, it’s seen as too much to handle for those around us. We usually hide our symptoms in order to not be completely alone.

disabled people are hated so much that we have a day to mourn those killed by their caregivers today is disability day of mourning, and too many people aren’t alive because ableism isn’t seen as violence

The Herald
The Herald@heraldscotland·
"In 2023, Professor Leonie Herx, the globally-renowned palliative care expert, described the nihilistic and dystopian outcomes from assisted suicide legislation. "Predictably, poor people or those experiencing short-term or long-term vulnerability were more at risk than affluent people with subjective decisions about the value of human life motivated almost entirely by cost considerations. "In an interview with The Herald, Prof Herx pointed out that legislation in her native Canada had advanced at 'breakneck speed' beyond many of the so-called safeguards. These included the proviso that assisted death would only occur in exceptional circumstances and for physical suffering that couldn’t be controlled, even though investment in palliative care at the end of life can relieve such suffering. "In Scotland and throughout the UK, almost every disabled rights organisation had expressed opposition to what they regarded as horrific outcomes and consequences for those with mental and physical challenges. "Professor Herx cited the case of a physician who’d been the main organiser of euthanasia provision at a hospital in Calgary. He was now a passionate opponent of euthanasia because he’d been appalled at how it was being used to target the weak and the vulnerable." 👇

Apparently the City of Langley decided to promote the idea of wheelchair users using bike lanes in the most harmful, irresponsible, inflammatory way possible and @CTVVancouver decided to go along for the ride. Because we don't have any grown-ups left in charge anywhere.

@Cynthia95001250 @mssinenomine @CTVVancouver Bike paths are open to bikes that go ‘slow’, I’m pretty sure Yep, bike paths need to be open to all wheelchairs, bc we don’t know the circumstances where they may need to be used in each instance I’d use them to train 5/10ks Thanks for considering my weak shoulders exceptional

@disabledtrans @mssinenomine @CTVVancouver You're mentioning exceptions. You can't open the bike path to only wheelchairs that go fast, so you'll end up with people going slow. And yes, some bikes go slow. Just like some cars go slow. They cause similar problems.

@Cynthia95001250 @mssinenomine @CTVVancouver Some bikes go slow If a wheelchair has a TriRide/Firefly-type attachment they may go fast (power chairs can go PDQ too!) People in manual chairs training for marathons or 5/10ks will go much faster than is safe for a sidewalk Wheelchairs need access to bike lanes AND sidewalks
