Not getting NSF GRFP was one of the most positive inflection points in my life...prob wouldn’t have ended up in my field, met my wife, worked abroad, landed in a great dept, or had my kids. I’ve consistently found that when one door closes, others open. Keep applying for things.

The review process is intended to collectively improve our work and the potential for impact that research can have on our field.

It is very helpful to have reviewers note both the strengths of a manuscript as well as the areas where further development may be needed. We often see the latter in reviews, but the former is equally important.
