Remote mounting your motor controllers can make sense but it’s a nightmare.
You’re running phase and encoder wires right next to each other, so lots of noise problems without well implemented shielding. IP67 was the goal but I’m still surprised they went for it vs. potting

Huh so thats what is inside a IP67 rated robot dog. Interesting it looks like the motor drivers arent mounted on the motor, but housed in the main body. Most likely to heat-sink them directly into the cool body and not sitting ontop of an already hot motor. Also interesting how the upper leg motor's heatsink is significantly smaller than the knee motor's huge fins. Probably just a packaging constraint.

@thdxr I applied to work at Facebook in 2012 (it was just a PR office in DC then) and my wife asked why they would hire software engineers, wasn't it completed already? this reminded me of that a bit.
