@BDPeacock @WilliamsonNFL As a fan of the draft who doesn’t watch CFB the draft stocks of Bain, Delane and Lemon have my head spinning. Players with these physical profiles never go in the first round, but all are being projected top 15. What am I missing?

There are “heavy” bodied players in the trenches. It’s not always obvious on film, but it shows up over time. These are densely-built players who carry real weight through contact. Hands, helmet, frame—everything has force behind it. You feel it when they strike. You see it in how defenders react. It’s not strictly tied to length. You can have it with shorter arms, longer arms. It’s more about how force is delivered and how it transfers once engaged. Some of it lives in gray areas technically. Hands into the chest, head placement, etc. Not advocating for anything outside the rules—but it’s part of the reality of NFL play and always has been. After a decade studying the trenches, and being around hundreds of NFL OL at OL Masterminds, it’s become more noticeable. Not everyone has it. Bain strikes me as one of those guys. It won’t override everything, but it helps mitigate length concerns. Especially when you pair it with his ability to bend.

Rueben Bain may not cross the threshold of arm length that a lot want to see but it is pretty clear that he is a full-grown man with the demeanor, twitch and power to be a good NFL player.
