@yacineMTB @ChongZitaZhang For complex, especially soft systems, good domain randomization is hard and ends up relying on some form of model anyway. Using known structures and learning the rest can be way more efficient…

@ChongZitaZhang we need an actuator network -> we don't need an actuator network -> we need to collect data, come up with a domain randomization scheme that contains the distribution of the actuator and have a procedure to check that the distribution contains the actuator dynamics

100k cycles of finger open & close. No motor overheating. Very little wear on the finger tendons. Tendon-driven hands don't usually publish their data on fatigue because tendon wear & tear is an unsolved problem. But we found a way.

We collected almost 16,000 (5,000 shown) balls from human play, ball throwers, and the robot itself in the real world, and augmented them with random noise. The data is split into serves and rallies. @Github goo.gle/4jCZLHO. Happy to serve up some training data 🤖🏓.

Today we are releasing the dataset of table tennis ball trajectories used to train the @GoogleDeepMind robot that can play amateur table tennis with humans (sites.google.com/corp/view/comp…). This work was accepted for presentation at #ICRA2025 and we hope to see you there!
