@NLHydro Paying high price for unreliable power during freezing cold weather.

Hydro is issuing a POWER WARNING in effect Saturday morning, January 24, for the island. Customers are asked to CONSERVE electricity. Due to ongoing frazil ice issues at our Bay d'Espoir hydro plant and high power demands, we are asking that all customers on the island conserve their electricity use to help maintain system stability. Customers can help conserve by: • Limiting use of hot water and appliances (dishwasher, clothes washer, dryer) • Turning off unnecessary lighting • Turning down heat in rooms that are not in use Our teams, along with divers and specialized equipment, continue to work hard to remove ice in Bay d'Espoir. We'll continue to keep you updated. #nlwx

As we head into the weekend, a quick reminder about how the weather can impact the electricity system. Strong winds can carry tiny salt particles in the air long distances from the ocean. When this salt settles on power lines and equipment, you may notice flickering lights or short outages, and, in some cases, visible sparks on power lines, as shown in this video. Some flickering may be larger than what's shown. There's no need to report this unless you experience a prolonged outage. Even after the winds calm, salt can remain on equipment until it's washed away by rain. Our System Control Centre is closely monitoring conditions. Stay safe this weekend. We're here to help if you need us.

Women and girls have the right to play competitive sports in a safe and fair environment against other biological females. This view is held by a vast majority of Albertans and Canadians. It is also common sense and common decency. Skate Canada‘s refusal to hold events in Alberta because we choose to protect women and girls in sport is disgraceful. We expect they will apologize and adjust their policies once they realize they are not only compromising the fairness and safety of their athletes, but are also offside with the international community, including the International Olympic Committee, which is moving in the same direction as Alberta.
