People don't watch documentaries for information. They watch to feel something they couldn't feel alone. That's the only thing I think about when I sit down to edit. What do I want the viewer to feel at this exact moment?

Biggest lie I told myself as an editor: I'll start posting when my skills are good enough. Year 1 passed. Year 2 passed. Skills were never the problem. Fear was.

Editors always ask me how to find clients. Honest answer? Stop looking on Fiverr. Your next client is on X right now posting content with bad editing. Go find them. Watch their videos. Spot the problems. Send them a solution not a portfolio. That's it. That's the whole strategy🔥

Want clients as a video editor? Your next client is already on X posting content with bad cuts and no hooks. Find them. Watch their videos. DM them with a problem and a solution. Not 'I'm an editor, hire me. That pitch gets ignored every time.

Every documentary editor needs to hear this: Stop cutting on the beat. Cut on the emotion. Music should follow the story. Not the other way around. The moment I learned this, my edits went from good to cinematic.

A documentary isn't slow because of bad footage. It's slow because the editor didn't know when to cut. I used to hold shots too long, trying to be 'cinematic. Then a client told me, I got bored at minute 4. That feedback changed how I edit forever. Now I ask myself one question before every cut: Is this shot still earning its place on the timeline? If I hesitate even for a second, it's gone.
