A snow event from Tuesday morning into the early afternoon will cause snow-covered and slippery roads right across the Hudson Valley. Because it will coincide with the morning commute, the storm will likely lead to school closings for those that are still in session. ➡️ Timing Snow developing between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. from west-to-east on Tuesday, ending during the early afternoon. ➡️ Amounts Snowfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected across the region. Localized amounts greater than 3 inches can’t be ruled out, particularly in elevated areas such as the Catskills. Snow may fall moderately for a time on Tuesday morning, including during the commute. ➡️ Impacts Snow-covered and slippery roads are likely on Tuesday morning, with temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Because of the timing of the snow during the morning commute and through a chunk of the day, school closings are likely. Road conditions should generally improve during the afternoon when snow ends and temperatures rise above freezing. Some schools may delay first, assess conditions as the morning progresses, and then ultimately close due to the snow. ➡️ Confidence Confidence is high for snow on Tuesday, although there is still some uncertainty in the exact start time. The weather feature driving the snow, a warm front, tends to be more challenging to predict than a typical low pressure system. If you must travel on Tuesday morning, allow extra time to reach your destination and adjust your speed to the conditions.
