AR14168, fires off an M4.4 solar flare at 0805, 1612 UTC. The flare appears to have an associated CME, due to the location I would expect this CME to have an Earthward component. #CME #Sun #Spaceweather

@GrossWeather The KP indexes are staying pretty consistent with what has been forecasted, if not higher! We did reach G1 levels a few minutes ago so we can only hope this trend continues!!!

7:50pm Sat: Geomagnetic activity is increasing. It’s not to the level where we would be able to see the northern lights this far south, but let’s stay alert early this evening and keep our fingers crossed! 🤞

6:20pm Sat: We have a chance to see the northern lights tonight! Can’t say exactly when, as we don’t get a better handle on timing until charged particles from the solar eruption reach @NASA’s SOHO satellite, maybe an hour ahead of time. No promises, but worth watching for! 🤞

I am not calling this night done for, I may ride all night, something tells me to do it. Yesterday when the data hit midday, I laughingly said to myself "expect the unexpected" 9 hours later I was making a mad dash to the countryside for imminent aurora. Expect the unexpected!

@1946dwalker Literally this is no one’s fault. Resources are being stretched thin. This would happen with any fire of this size. Use your brain.

This was avoidable. Controlled burns,water management,better leadership. This is the fault of liberal politicians period. If you live in a desert climate you know the risks. I feel bad for those who died or lost all. I woul never live in a tinder box. Happens every year.
