One of the biggest compliments Van Gogh could get 👨‍🎨 Van Gogh admired Monet's use of colour and light, as well as his innovative approach to capturing the effects of nature. He especially appreciated Monet's ability to convey atmosphere and emotion through brushwork, particularly in landscapes. When Van Gogh presented his work at the Salon des Indépendants in 1890, Theo could not have reported higher praise: Monet considered Vincent’s works ‘the best in the exhibition.’ In this post we show a selection of the works that were presented in that exhibition (3/14).
