Starlink Sparks a Digital Revolution in Sierra Leone Starlink is quietly transforming Sierra Leone, connecting lecture halls in Freetown and remote rural clinics. On 19 March 2026, civil engineering firm S&H Trading Investment Limited SL donated a complete Starlink kit to first-year Master of Laws students at Fourah Bay College. The equipment now gives future lawyers reliable high-speed internet for global research, online journals and collaborative projects that were previously impossible. The donation builds on a national push that began in January 2025. Through partnerships with authorised resellers, the government has rolled out Starlink-powered Wi-Fi across nine universities and 23 campuses. Private provider World-Link Sierra Leone has extended the service to secondary schools such as Albert Academy and Prince of Wales, where teachers report faster lesson planning and students now join virtual exchanges abroad. Nowhere has the benefit been more immediate than in healthcare. During the June 2025 mpox outbreak, World-Link installed terminals at all 14 District Health Management Teams in just 48 hours. Real-time data sharing, telemedicine and coordination with national authorities helped contain the virus. Health Minister Austin Demby credited the rapid upgrade with saving lives. Delivering speeds above 75 Mbps with simple plug-and-play installation, Starlink bypasses the country’s limited traditional broadband, which reaches only 21 percent of the population. As a cornerstone of President Julius Maada Bio’s “Big Five” digital agenda, the technology is closing the digital divide faster than anyone expected and rewriting daily life for students, doctors and communities nationwide.
