The quality of everything around you will just stagnate but when you travel to another region of the world, you'll suddenly notice what happened

What is more interesting, is how people don't notice when the country loses it's wealth. It's just every year a queue to a doctor becomes just a bit longer, the groceries are just a bit more expensive (damn supermarkets with 3% profit margins!), the infrastructure gets updated a bit less often, maybe you start going to second-hand shops some times, but everything else stays pretty much the same Eventually your life becomes incomparable to similar countries (east/west germany, north/south korea), but since what you have is about the same as your neighbours, nobody understands what they've been missing.
