Hello, there 👋 Have you heard David Lammy MP and Sarah Sackman MP talking about people stealing bottles of whisky and swiping mobile telephones as examples of people who should not get jury trials? Well. I’d like to tell you a story. 🪡 🧵

This from @Geoffrey_Cox was titanic - a truly beautiful speech. He outshone those sat opposite. They could only watch. And nervously laugh. This should be seen by every new MP to understand what they do, & every new barrister to understand what we do.

Joanna is politer than I am going to be. For the Justice Secretary - a former barrister - to suggest that being wrongly accused of a crime and imprisoned for three years is just like “scraping your knee”, should be a resignation matter. @DavidLammy owes the public an apology.
Joanna Hardy-Susskind@Joanna__Hardy

Your local friendly criminal barrister here! 👋 I need you to know that anything up to a three year prison sentence imposed without a jury trial is really not the same thing as scraping your knee without seeing a consultant.

Men’s rights are the same in EVERY country in the world Women’s rights aren’t Misogyny is the soil in which violence grows When men lead change, violence loses power Allyship is a verb, not a noun Stop putting it on your CV, do something #InternationalWomensDay2026 #IWD2026

I’ve written to every Member of Parliament today. Proposals before Parliament would remove jury trials from offences carrying up to three years in prison. Freedoms rarely vanish overnight. They are chipped away in the name of efficiency. Juries did not cause the crisis in our courts. Removing them will not fix it. When the state seeks to take someone’s liberty for serious offences, the judgment of ordinary citizens should never be optional. This is close to becoming law. Please read the letter. Contact your MP now.

So 79 year old Trump and 76 year old Netanyahu are throwing bombs at the 86 year old Ayatollah who is retaliating. Clearly, the route to world peace is to take over-75 year old men out of the picture.

The US Supreme Court showing its a court not a campaign arm. When judges cross ideological lines to check executive power, that’s constitutional muscle memory. Democracy works when the law is louder than any leader. Whatever you think of tariffs, it’s a great moment for the rule of law.

These brave, young women sparked the 2022 uprising in Iran. Today is built on their courage and their sacrifice. I hope they’re looking down, proud of how far this has come. I wish they were here to witness it. We won’t ever forget you 💔

A woman is killed by a man every 3 days in the UK... 78% are murdered by a partner/ex Yet not once have I heard Reform talk about this Not once have I heard them back measures to protect women’s safety In fact, they voted against them So ask yourself... Why the concern for women only when the perpetrator is a migrant?

The utter irony of Putin and Trump meeting soon in Budapest to jointly seal Ukraine’s fate should not be lost on anybody. This is the very same city where the US, the UK, and Russia came together 31 years ago to give Ukraine ironclad assurances that its territorial integrity would be respected and protected within existing borders in exchange for giving up a third of the world’s nuclear weapons (to Russia!). Ukraine trusted the US, trusted the UK, transferred all its nuclear weapons to Russia, and joined the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Within 20 years, Putin effectively ripped up the Budapest Memorandum, ignored Russia’s pledge, and invaded and annexed Crimea. In 2022, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine finally removed all remaining doubts about Putin’s imperial greed. If treaties and agreements between countries are to be trusted, the US and the UK must stand by the original Budapest Memorandum and give the Ukrainians everything they need to push Russia out of Ukraine, as President Trump said he would do before taking Putin’s latest call. It is the only way for Ukraine to get its territory back and put an end to this brutal invasion. If the US and Russia continue to ignore the Budapest Memorandum of 1994, how on Earth can Ukraine be expected to have any faith in yet another Budapest memorandum signed in the same city between Russia and the United States? They can’t.

Some staggering doublethink/hypocrisy from well known radical right accounts on here 1) Turns out words do hurt and matter after all- many spent years telling us they didn’t and free speech should be absolute/ spent months defending Lucy Connolly for literally inciting violence. 2) That political violence/rhetoric is the sole preserve of the left despite all the evidence and real world events to the contrary. 3) That the accusation of fascism/far right behaviours is worse than the behaviours themselves. For example like lying about a “stolen election” and literally using violence to stop it. 4) That MAGA isn’t a divisive movement and never has been. Maga doesn’t like being called far right- fine. Will we have a moratorium on the use of “far left”? Will we stop hearing about how anyone who disagrees with them is about to presage the destruction of Western civilisation? 5) That cancellation is ok after all- something now being demanded of the Oxford Union president.
