Mancano due anni e mezzo alla fine di quest’incubo. Ma già tra sei mesi - con le elezioni legislative di metà mandato - potrà fare un po’ meno danni, se il popolo americano lo vorrà. A noi nel frattempo rimangono un po’ di incombenze: 1) capire che non è arrivato al potere con un colpo di Stato, ma perché lo hanno votato i cittadini del suo paese. E questo è accaduto, secondo noi, soprattutto perché sia nel 2016 che nel 2024 la politica non è stata in grado di schierare un’alternativa valida e innovativa. 2) imparare la lezione, sia di politica interna (se la politica non si rinnova, il pericolo populista è sempre dietro l’angolo) che estera (con o senza di lui, l’Europa deve diventare grande, autonoma, responsabile). 3) cercare quanto più possibile di ignorare le sue parole. Anche se, come oggi, si riferiscono in modo inqualificabile al Santo Padre. Ps. Sì, pensiamo ancora che gli Usa e Israele siano meglio (incommensurabilmente meglio) di qualsiasi autocrazia, teocrazia o regime dittatoriale. Si, pensiamo ancora che l’Iran sia un regime criminale senza il quale il mondo sarebbe un posto migliore. Si, pensiamo ancora che senza un intervento della comunità internazionale (quello sancito dalla risoluzione 2803 dell’Onu il 17 novembre scorso), a breve a Gaza scoppierà una nuova guerra (e noi siamo quelli che la vogliono evitare).

Gli attentati di ieri a Blida, compiuti proprio nel primo giorno della visita di Papa Leone XIV, non sono un episodio isolato: sono la prova concreta che il jihadismo sta tornando a colpire nel nord del Paese. Due attentatori suicidi hanno agito a pochi chilometri da Algeri: uno contro il quartier generale della sicurezza, l’altro vicino a un impianto industriale. Il messaggio è chiaro e inquietante: non vogliamo simboli cristiani qui. Non è un caso che abbiano scelto proprio quel giorno. Mentre il Papa parla di dialogo, pace e convivenza, qualcuno risponde con cinture esplosive. È un segnale deliberato contro la visita pontificia e contro ogni tentativo di apertura verso l’Occidente. Dopo anni in cui si pensava che il terrorismo fosse stato sconfitto (dopo la sanguinosa guerra civile degli anni ’90), oggi emergono segnali preoccupanti: cellule jihadiste ancora attive, soprattutto nelle zone montuose e centrali, e la capacità di colpire obiettivi sensibili vicino alla capitale. Al momento non ci sono rivendicazioni ufficiali, ma il timing è troppo preciso per essere casuale. L’Algeria sta mandando un messaggio forte: il radicalismo islamista non è morto, si sta riorganizzando e non accetta la presenza di un Papa sul suo territorio. Questa è la realtà scomoda che molti preferiscono ignorare
