@JamesSurowiecki Somebody should have immediately corrected him. We're in this cycle again where he just says things that aren't correct and nobody says a word.

@JohanOfMars @Erdayastronaut @stanton_jeffers …of a large swell of conspiracy minded listeners so why not take the opportunity to drop some good science on them while we’ve got their attention and leave the general public overall more informed than they were before. You can’t underestimate the reach of Rogan’s listenership

At best you can temporarily get these guys to say it's plausible we went to the moon. Then a week later when they see a flag waving video they’ll be back onto saying it was faked. Maybe the best you can do is invite Rogan to meet you at a space museum and maybe see the rockets and meet some of the remaining Apollo folks. I have tried every angle from why would the Soviets play along to how did the reflectometers get there. Nothing works. These are people who don't care about the truth or space and are instead interested in maintaining the conspiracy narrative.

Hey @joerogan / @JRE_Clips, I’d love to come on the show and explain point by point absolutely everything you talked about with Bart Sibrel. There’s actually very simple and fun facts behind so many of his quandaries that can be good learning moments for physics and science. I’m going through the entire conversation, minute by minute, point by point and will have a full breakdown of everything talked about shortly. If the conversation is engaging and fun, then let’s bring Bart back on and maybe bring on others like @elonmusk or @DJSnM and let’s “debate” if he wants to. @JamieVernon

@JohanOfMars @Erdayastronaut @stanton_jeffers Yea well I guess they have their whole self identity wrapped up in the conspiracy narrative and in many cases making a living from it. But yea @Erdayastronaut makes a great point about this being an education opportunity. These nuts have managed to catch the attention….

@primatejames @Plinz Yea even in societies where there was an attempt at the redistribution of wealth to the extreme degree (i.e. communism) things stratified into the haves (party members) and have nots (regular citizens or the “proletariat”).

@Plinz we don't distribute now,and yet we pretend for some reason human nature will change. There will be haves & have nots. That way those at that top will still be able to feel good about themselves.

We don't need to worry about losing jobs, but about losing coordination. As long as we can produce the goods and services we need, we can find ways to allocate them. Once producing goods and services is out of the way, we may make better use of our time.

@pfitzart @icodeblockchain @Plinz I’ll trade you 5 of my electrons for 2 of your protons buddy. Also, know anyone supplying some good quality neutrons?

@icodeblockchain @Plinz Everything comes down to either moving protons or moving (more specifically) electrons. It’s a deep interrelated web of matter and energy.

@Plinz By most metrics (apart from $), Oppenheimer is the better movie - no accounting for taste though!

@SamStratten As for getting people off their phone and engaging, when you all sit down together announce that you’d like to play a little game; “the first one to touch their phone is paying for the meal”.

@Grady_Booch @azeem @dasamuelsson @emollick Would you mind giving a specific example of a (relatively) simple task involving “reconciliation of constraints across choices,” which if doable by AI would falsify your statements?

👀After 154 pages of tests of GPT-4, this paper concludes “Given the breadth and depth of GPT-4's capabilities, we believe that it could reasonably be viewed as an early (yet still incomplete) version of an artificial general intelligence (AGI) system.” arxiv.org/abs/2303.12712

@rpbartone_ @Plinz I think ‘evil’ is a subjective human concern. An AI may or may not have any direct concerns regarding what’s evil and would likely be more concerned with things like efficiency, which depending on its goals, we may be consider either good or evil.

Someone please talk to the anti AI journalists and explain to them that the AI is coming, the AI is already reading all their stuff and the AI will not forget

A photo I recently finished from the Guangxi province of China. It wasn't the easiest shot to get. I had to climb up one of those big hills you see in the distance. I was a hot sweaty mess when I got to the top. Just after I took the photo, a spring rain came down to cool me off.

@fergtwit @lexfridman I don't think that initiation ceremonies are functionally focused on inducing trauma. My understanding is very tentative, but the goal is to separate the individual from the mode of the nurtured child and give it responsibility over its own survival, physically and spiritually.

@Plinz on your point on @lexfridman podcast about trauma in systems activating growth to work around contradictions; I'm wondering if tribal human culture knew this hence had intense initiation ceremonies for adulthood.
