May I propose this a rule of discourse: the making of solemn parallels between minor, annoying measures, health or otherwise, by well-meaning democratic governments AND the liquidation of the entire Jewish people in Europe by the Nazis aka the Holocaust displays crass insensitivity, bad taste, preposterous self-pity and mountainous, moronic ignorance. In a time when real history is constantly being distorted and misused, it cheapens it and justifies others to do so. Please stop doing it

I am very sad indeed to hear about Nic van de Walle’s passing. His work and writing has always inspired me a very great deal, and his contribution to knowledge has been exceptional. His book with Michael Bratton was one of the works that made me want to be an academic.
