Heads up: The next version, Ubuntu 25.10 "Questing Quokka," is making a big change. They are getting rid of the Xorg system for the Ubuntu desktop. Starting with this release the “Ubuntu” session in GDM will run exclusively on Wayland discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-25-10… #linux #OpenSource

@bdmurdock Thanks! I was looking only at the pure parsers in the list. Yosys slang is a good pointer, will try to check that out when time permits.

@ganeshts Isn't Verific only available in the paid version of Yosys? Did you click on the link in my tweet to sv-test, and then the link to see results? It shows how well yosys does, and also shows Synlig yosys that uses Surelog as a parser and it does very well on the tests

@coolingreviews @Windows Is that Home, Pro, or Enterprise? I have long since given up on Home because of this exact reason - IIRC Enterprise gives you the option to set a policy to avoid unprompted updates.

The way Microsoft @Windows updates drivers is absolutely mind-boggling stupid. I was literally in the middle of WORKING - which loads the iGPU - it updated my display drivers, and CRASHED the laptop. Who designed this slop?!

I don't expect perfection from @IntelGraphics drivers, but (attempting) gaming on Meteor Lake's iGPU has been a very bad experience. I can't even get to the character loading screen of a basic game like @dragonage : Origins
Bits And Chips - Eng@BitsAndChipsEng

By an engineering point of view, the @IntelGraphics iGPUs are usually pretty good for several years. The main problem are the drivers (and their updates). Intel have to improve its own driver team.

I would like to place on record my sincere appreciation for John Campion [ @JohnCampionJr ] - the CMS he created for the AnandTech editors to use was a joy to work with. Miles ahead of any of the other options I have experimented with.

A retweet for a wider reach - Gavin has been a wonderful team player and will be an asset to any company in the tech space. Wishing him the very best for a fulfilling career ahead.
Gavin Bonshor@gavbon86

I'm currently available for employment and/or freelance roles! I am an experienced PC Hardware Editor, but I'm also openpen to Tech PR Roles. (Warning: long tweet!) Please tag or retweet anyone who may be interested in hiring me! I have some big news. My tenure at @anandtech has ended, and it's been a great seven or so years, which I genuinely loved. I would have been proud to have even contributed a small tidbit to an article at AnandTech, let alone all the content I have over the years. I have posted over 500 bylines, with many of these being detailed analyses and event coverage. Writing for AnandTech was my pipedream when I first got into this industry many years ago, and I can honestly say I have accomplished this dream and gone beyond the realms of what I thought. The experience genuinely humbles me. Going from a basic freelance editor to taking over from Dr. Ian Cutress as Senior Editor is one of my greatest lifelong achievements, and I'm forever grateful for it. I learned so much from my time at AT and got to stamp my authority on PC hardware as the authority. Over the years, I've had the pleasure of working with some of the best the industry has to offer, including @RyanSmithAT, @ganeshts, @andreif7, and others from the team. I also want to give a special mention to my mentor and friend throughout my time at AnandTech, Dr. @IanCutress: Without this man, I wouldn't be where I am today, and I'm forever grateful for his knowledge, friendship, and very strong ethical nature. During my time, I've met some wonderful people I consider good friends and done amazing things with amazing people. I just wanted to thank everyone, including companies and anyone my content has helped over the years! I'm not leaving the industry, though... If you're looking for an experienced editor with many years of experience and great relationships in the tech industry, please feel free to contact me! Thanks to all (please retweet or tag anyone who may be interested in my services 🙂)

After 14+ years and 846 bylines (including 356 long-form reviews), it is time for me to bid adieu to @anandtech ; I intend to continue coverage of computing systems in general, with a focus on storage and networking, in a different venture (stay tuned!) (1/3)

@NewMaxxSSD The review appears to be demonstrably wrong in stating "Thunderbolt 4 only features USB4 20Gbps". Having cursorily evaluated a PSSD enclosure with the same bridge chip, I can guarantee that any MTL or Phoenix-based mini-PC / notebook can get the advertised 3.7 GBps performance.

@NewMaxxSSD 16TB-class in SATA! Even Micron doesn't offer that in the 5400 PRO series (tops out at 7.68T) for enterprise. Many vendors have tried to market that ( remembering the SOURCE-HC from @MushkinEnhanced for the consumer market ), but I don't think it ever took off.

@bretweber These are trivial with matplotlib. Have you tried that out? I will upload the scripts I use for my reviews on GitHub later this week and you can check them out to see if it meets your requirements.

@ganeshts @Venngage Nothing particularly fancy as such, something like the attached. Canva was OK but had weird bugs (didn't auto-add values to the chart), Venngage is better but I refuse to pay an extra $30 just to organise my graphs into directories...

Apparently, $19/m to @Venngage isn't enough to allow me to separate documents into folders. For folder privileges, I have to give them $49 a month 🥲 What do people use to create graphs? $19 felt like a lot but the process was better than Canva..

@abrasion @IanCutress @CrucialMemory @MicronTech Started off as proprietary in 2022, but Dell sent it over to JEDEC which ratified the standard last year. There are now multiple vendors supplying, as well as utilizing these modules

@FanlessTech I wouldn't blame ASUS. Intel was never the first to get the processor family NUCs out. Usually ASRockInd did and the Intel branded ones followed a couple of months later. Same with MTL. FWIW, launch BIOS of branded NUC usually more optimized than the early birds.

Disappointed by ASUS's lack of action on improving global availability of the NUC, our faith in their commitment is waning
