What's TN Congress's real strength?
Political analysts often measure the strength of Congress based on what it polled individually when it stood alone (without any alliance) in 2014. It bagged nearly 5% votes share in 2014. For a party that neglected its field strength for too long (deciding to ride on the back of either of the dravidian parties), many of its sympathisers wouldn't vote ( for it when it stands alone) seeing no presence in the field. They would prefer to vote for a 'winnable dravidian party' which is normally their second choice.
But the fact is.... Congress party has a huge goodwill as a party professing secularism and its people oriented policies during 60 years of rule. People know that the party, not only fetched the independence, but also built India from scratch, step by step. That's the reason for the immense goodwill.
As pointed out earlier, the goodwill in total can't be converted as votes because of its poor field strength.
However, the difference between the good will and the votes share (5%) can be easily converted as votes when it alligns with a party with a strong worker base.
That's the advantage for any 'Congress inclusive alliance' in TN.
Lessons:
1. Don't underestimate the strength of Congress in TN
2. #TNCC should work harder to harvest it's goodwill as votes
3.#AICC should reward those leaders who improve field strength by objectively setting growth parameters.
