⛏️ Miners' Modernism: Pithead Baths They brought European architectural modernism to working class communities across the country, and delivered widespread health and welfare benefits some two decades before the founding of the NHS, yet the story of Britain’s pioneering Pithead Baths has been almost completely forgotten. Now a new research project, led by C20 and @QUBelfast, aims to shed new light on their legacy and discover exactly how many of these ground-breaking colliery buildings remain. 📍We need your help! 🔥 #OnThisDay in 1936, the Crystal Palace was destroyed by fire. Reports from the time recall a wailing, groaning sound from within the structure, as wind fanned the flames through the pipes of the great Handel organ. A mournful musical lament for the end of an era.
