I swear only in evangelical cargo cult scholarship world can someone write a terrible terrible book, receive fair criticism, and the critics be asked why they didn't "go talk to so-and-so in private."

Congratulations to Brett Randell who became the first cricketer to take 5 wickets in consecutive balls in the 254 year history of 1st class cricket. He took 6 wickets in 8 balls & finished with 7-25 for Central Stags against Northern Districts.

A predicament for @churchofengland when so many of the bishops you could have a theological conversation with are about to retire, or have just retired. Really, the situation is dire, and just when people – young inquirers in particular – want theological depth. 1/2

The Bishop of Lichfield, Dr Michael Ipgrave, is to retire in September, he announced in Lichfield Cathedral on Monday, during the St Chad’s Day festal evensong #bishopsretirement #churchnews #churchtimes #Echobox=1772551699" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2026/…

@AP_Davison By my count, there are 27 bishops (26%) with doctorates. Where I can, I've put their thesis title: not all are theological.

I would also like to broaden somewhat the philosophical readings on games. Do you have suggestions? Please respond with suggestions for suitable philosophical writing on games. Last time we read Bernard Suits on What is a Game? and a few others, but I'd like to expand.

Just learned: next autumn I shall be again teaching my course on the Philosophy and Logic of Games! What fun it was last time, and I hope it will be again.

This seems to be the exact moment in 1957 when Adam Parry's Greek-English typewriter broke while typing his dissertation (ΛΟΓΟΣ and ΕΡΓΟΝ in Thucydides). Greek text is typed for the first 172 pages, but handwritten for the remainder and the table of contents.

@fernstedt @AntigoneJournal Yes, Heiko Oberman's biography notes Luther's remarkable prolixity. Historical sources confirm he averaged a major tract or treatise every two weeks for decades, producing over 600 works from 1517–1546, fueling the Reformation's spread.

The best professor of philosophy I studied from was merciless in grading our essays, refusing to grade them at all if he found too many grammatical errors (often on rules of grammar we didn’t even know existed) Most students hated him for it, but he would always simply say: 1/2

@AntigoneJournal Henry Scougall on May 25 1669 'was at the early age of nineteen promoted to the Regency, with which the Professorship of Philosophy was connected' (James Bruce, _𝐿𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝐸𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑀𝑒𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐴𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑒𝑛, p. 273). But, again, I think he was just a regent.
