A predicament for @churchofengland when so many of the bishops you could have a theological conversation with are about to retire, or have just retired. Really, the situation is dire, and just when people – young inquirers in particular – want theological depth. 1/2

Just learned: next autumn I shall be again teaching my course on the Philosophy and Logic of Games! What fun it was last time, and I hope it will be again.

This seems to be the exact moment in 1957 when Adam Parry's Greek-English typewriter broke while typing his dissertation (ΛΟΓΟΣ and ΕΡΓΟΝ in Thucydides). Greek text is typed for the first 172 pages, but handwritten for the remainder and the table of contents.

The amount of words surviving from the pen of St Augustine (5.3 million) is equivalent in size to 70% of all surviving Classical Latin.

And Isaac Causabon beat all three, at 23 and 3 months. But William Thomson, the future Lord Kelvin, was unanimously elected Professor of Natural History at Glasgow at 22 yrs and 2 mths.
