#UNCW 31’ I am extremely excited and blessed to announce my verbal commitment to play Division I soccer at University of North Carolina Wilmington! I cannot thank God, my teammates, and family enough for supporting me along the way. A special shoutout to Coach Nick from Southern Maryland Rush, Coach Ryan from In10sity Futsal, and my Dad who have done nothing but push me to become my best and develop me into the player I am today. Lastly I want to thank Coach Chris, Coach Colin, and Coach Savannah for giving me this opportunity and supporting me throughout my recruiting process. Go Seahawks! #HawkYeah #SeahawkSoccer @PrepSoccer @ImYouthSoccer @ImCollegeSoccer @TopDrawerSoccer @TheSoccerWire @RushSoccer @UNCWSoccer

@mlycan12 As always, well said. Young girls are pouring their hearts and souls into this sport and their dreams to play collegiate soccer. Making continuous adjustments that alter that path without getting real feedback from the programs and players it impacts is careless.

One year ago, the NCAA blindsided college athletics with unprecedented roster limits. Thousands of student-athletes lost opportunities as coaches were put in the terrible position of cutting and/or de-committing players. Then AFTER the damage was done, the NCAA introduced the “Designated Student Athlete” designation as a way to let some athletes stay without counting against roster limits. But many programs had already made painful decisions because coaches were told the limits were coming and tried to give athletes as much notice as possible. Now we are about to do this AGAIN. The NCAA is expected to approve a 5th year of eligibility next month — after most programs have already recruited their 2027 classes based on the CURRENT rules and CURRENT roster limits. In women’s soccer, we already operate under a restrictive 28-player cap. You cannot recruit for FOUR classes for years, then suddenly force programs to fit FIVE classes onto the same roster without student-athletes paying the price. Because when seniors stay, someone else loses a spot. More cuts. More decommitments. More athletes caught in the middle of ever-changing rules they had nothing to do with. College recruiting happens YEARS in advance. Families and athletes make life-changing decisions based on the rules in place at the time. If 5th years are approved, they should all be classified as DSAs so as to not count against roster limits. Otherwise the NCAA is about to repeat the exact same disaster all over again. #StopChangingTheRules #HereWeGoAgain #DSAThe5thYears

NCAA confirms a vote on the 5-year, age based eligibility policy in June. It has wide support to pass.

@Don_K_Williams Coaches shouldn’t focus all their attention on ECNL and GA and be more open minded about the lower levels leagues. After all - a lot of keepers play other sports because of their athleticism and hands.

One way @GAcademyLeague could differentiate themselves and be more competitive would be to accept individual teams and not just clubs. I promise you there are still good small club teams out there that could strengthen some ages/divisions. @ImYouthSoccer #youthsoccer

@mlycan12 Love that your program gives USYS players a chance. Please keep it up. Too many coaches recruit via acronyms. Yes that’s where most of the talent is but there are valid reasons some quality players have to play elsewhere.

DM recently received: “Coach, what’s the best way to get recruited? Showcases, ID Clinics, Emails/highlights?” The honest answer: there isn’t one magic formula. Here’s how one of our recent classes stacks up: ⚽️ One was a USYS player we had never seen before. Found her while researching top HS goal scorers beginning of her junior year. Saw her live, got her to campus and she committed. Quick turnaround! ⚽️ One is the daughter and sister of former Tribe players, ECNL player. Tribe roots run deep. ⚽️ One was a talented ECNL player and younger sister of someone we had previously recruited. Came for a visit and fell in love with the school and program. ⚽️ One was an under-the-radar USYS player we discovered playing against one of our commits. Invited her to a clinic… she committed Fall Jr Yr. ⚽️ One was a GA player who got our attention at an ID clinic and put herself firmly on our recruiting list. She committed Fall Jr Yr ⚽️ One ECNL player from California had a coach who kept advocating for her and she loved William & Mary. Persistence paid off. ⚽️ One was completely under the radar, made her way onto ECNL/GA teams late, and we saw her at a showcase spring of her senior year. Moral of the story: There is no single path to getting recruited. Showcases Clinics Recommendations Research Advocates Development over time The key is simply getting on a staff’s radar #IfYoureGoodYoureGood #RecruitingProcess #D1Soccer

@mlycan12 It’s amazing how these top leagues survive with such poor management decisions. Greed and ego drive everything at ECNL, GA, and MLS Next. It’s a broken system that needs oversight to protect our youth players and naive parents.

The Commanders' special teams units have been fantastic. We've talked a lot about how good Larry Izzo's return units have been but his coverage units have been just as good. This has gone under the radar in a brutal season.

@mlycan12 Good feedback. Our club recently started doing them because it helps reduce printing costs and allows us to update the data as much as we need. (We don’t have ECNL money 😂). We went with this hybrid.

In May 2019, massive recruiting changes were implemented by the NCAA for D1 women’s soccer. Prior to that, prospects were able to talk freely to college coaches at any time, providing the contact was initiated by them (until summer after sophomore year). Unofficial visits were unlimited in high school, and official visits could begin summer after sophomore year. While this did result in some very early commitments, the rules facilitated,an environment where relationships were cultivated over time—players and parents were able to gain a thorough sense of schools and programs before committing, resulting in far less transfers. The other byproduct was that younger players had a clear sense of schools that were interested with communication permitted. The chaos that has been created by our now June 15 blockbuster date has players committing immediately without ever doing visits and/or rushing through visits and decisions. Despite the fact that we can speak in June and verbally commit players, they are not allowed visit until August 1– the official start for official and unofficial, which morphed into one and causes a lot of confusion in and of itself. I think what we gained in terms of preventing a small number of players committing too young, we’ve lost in creating a pressure cooker of a process that sets a lot of players and programs up for failure. I miss the good ol days of recruiting normalcy. #RecruitingFail #NCAASoccer @WMTribeWSOC

@ImCollegeSoccer Unfortunately it is the truth. But kids also shouldn’t be lured onto ECNL or GA clubs, especially their RL and Aspire teams, because they think they will get their P4 chance by doing so.

Recruits: The Truth? If you're not on the ECNL, elite GA team, or MLS Next team and you're attending Power 4 D1 ID camps, you are absolutely throwing your money away. You are judged 100% on your club initials when you register for camps. “But..but…but…” …..but nothing. It’s true and a very tough reality. Yes there are .01% anomalies out there but overall you are judged on your initials. It's a special kind of ATHLETE, with superb ATHLETICISM that these ELITE D1 schools want. 99% of you outside of those FIRST team club initials are throwing money away attending P4/G5 D1 ID camps. Get an evaluation from your club coach to see if that ID camp is right for you. #CSTruth

@mlycan12 When recruiting players, college coaches should be sure to take a look at how many youth team switches the player has made. Could be a sign of things to come.

Transfer portal posts we will NOT see on X this week: “After careful consideration, I have decided to stick with the commitment I made to ABC University and myself by giving this college soccer process a chance. Although my playing time was not what I imagined, I realize the transition is hard and I’m ready to work even harder to prove myself. I also am aware of the unprecedented roster limits which means there are very few spots available in other programs and the portal is a big risk to take. The reality is many college athletes never end up realizing a lot of playing time and the grass is not always greener. I am going to resist the portal hype storm that is created by social media and give it a chance before starting all over at square one” Before everyone comes at me, I know the portal can be a GREAT thing for a lot of players. There are players being forced off teams, those whose coaches left or those who discovered the culture is toxic or the school is a terrible fit. But there are also plenty pulling the plug too early, giving up on themselves and thinking things will be different somewhere else. A lot of players die in the portal so I’m just suggesting giving it a lot of deliberation because once it’s done there’s no going back. #TranferPortal #CollegeSoccer

I understand things happen while flying. But the way @JetBlue handles significant delays is extremely frustrating, especially as they repeatedly give us wrong information. Competitors do a much better job.
