Similar to your frustrations at people classing the US as just a big country & not knowing the specifics, you can't just class Europe as one place.

You are literally talking about a country the size of your entire continent and claiming that we rank lower across the board. Intelligence is a broad and multifaceted concept. Regardless, we are discussing geography. In the U.S., it is standard to focus more on world geography, while in Europe, the majority of your curriculum is centered around Europe and its surroundings, with only a limited focus on world geography. Our entire eighth-grade year is dedicated to world geography alone; we didn’t pass if we couldn’t name 95% of the countries in the world and their capitals. I am aware that cities in England and Belgium are different, having experienced both. However, we aren’t talking about cultural and social norms. Not one person I spoke to during my time in Europe had ever heard of Wisconsin or any of its surrounding states. I also welcomed multiple exchange students in high school and was their first point of contact, with up to 50 each year, and not one of them knew Wisconsin or any of its border states, nor the states bordering those states. When I finally mentioned that we are near Chicago after saying Illinois, some people understood.
