I think it's time for me to switch how i use AI in my work.
Back in 2024 my frontend devs moved to a new company and I decided to try windsurf before hiring someone else. Building marketing websites was never a challenge except when you have some complex animations. Asked my designers to reduce the complexity of animations and by myself (and windsurf) I managed to do the work of 2 frontend devs while maintaining quality and timelines. I used to spend 4-7 hrs just for dev until Claude Code and Codex got released.
Switched to both of them, started selling more webapps (all crud thats what the businesses needed) and we shipped, slop or not, client reviewed and tested final product and they couldn't be happier given the prices we gave and the quality they got. Gave them 25-40% of other quotations they got while I still made ~60-80% profit. This was in 2025.
Did we face issues in production? Yes. Did we manage to fix them easily with the same agents? Yes when I discovered that "how to prompt" X posts were from idiot people and you should just talk to it normally instead.
In 2026 we stopped taking clients as we discover new opportunities, building our own apps and services. I built MVPs with both prompting Codex normally and with long running session, Missions in Droid. But I feel this point is gonna be critical points of where we're going. Agents can do a lot of our dev work, but is this actually gonna be the future of working? or should we invest back in hiring devs and force them to use IDEs with ai assistance (cursor, windsurf). The issue is the talent in my region isn't the same as the west. I genuinely was getting better code from sonnet 3.5 than some "experienced devs" I interviewed. And for me im not a dev and grok 2 can write better code than me 😂
But I feel with agents and as a founder I got the mentality of SHIP ASAP. And got addicted to it. But I noticed the agents will solve simple issues with a complex solution, making the codebase harder to navigate for both humans and agents. Which will be a big issue as we build more complex apps and we move away from CRUD apps.
I tried to build one of the complex idea I had with codex and in missions. I took 3 weeks of daily prompting codex (~4hrs daily) to get to an mvp. It sucked and a lot of functionality didn't work. I rebuilt ot with Droid's Missions, the session took 50hrs of continuous work. Got a better MVP than what I got in codex (cost ~$500 in tokens), but it still had some issues that I don't have the energy to prompt and fix yet.
Everyone is saying Agents are better at building from a fresh codebase, but what I noticed as the harnesses got better, agents are so good at building new features into an existing codebase following the same practices and design used. And I feel this is what makes building with an IDE still needed.
I am atm thinking of putting ~$2k in Droid and launch missions to refactor and simplify my clients codebases, cause I'm sure there is a lot of stupid decisions in them. Then I'll review them manually with Devin and try to understand the implementation and fix issues I find and build it in a way that I understand it.
And I plan to switch how I use agents, I'll start fresh by building in an IDE each feature at a time until I get to an MVP at least, then I can launch cloud agents to implement more features but I'll try not to have a +10K LoC PRs cause this will bring me back to a shitter codebase. I'll try to make PRs don't exceed 2k hopefully.
Yeah it'll take longer to ship, but I won't spend a lot of time fixing it in the future.

Yeah in replicant they deployed many popla and devola units around the world to monitor all replicants and prepare to merge their souls back. The ones in nier's village were responsible for the villagers in there. When everything went wrong and shadow lord died, meaning their mission failed and humanity was lost forever, all devola and popola units around the world started facing discrimination by the others and abused if im not misraken. The ones in automata were one of the units who faced this, not because they were the one who caused it, but just because they were the same unit. This was in automata ending C iirc.
Other backstories like 9s's that were important (i dont wanna spoil just in case) wasn't mentioned in the game i think but there is a 7hrs vid that goes through all the story

@ActualAero Apparently they aren't even the same two you see in Replicant. Immediately meeting them I'm like..."how are they still alive?" Idk it makes no sense to me and I don't think they ever bring it up. I stopped playing after ending A

Btw the score they have in here for opus is in Claude Code. Opus 4.6 in Droid CLI score 69.9%. I also don't know if having terminal bench alone is a good indicator. Don't see this and assume its gonna be better, but given the price and speed it should be nice to use

@infmes just use codex with gpt5.4-mini for everything and gpt 5.4 i think it’s the best deal for 20$

Windsurf@windsurf
We're simplifying Windsurf pricing across Free, Pro, and Teams alongside launching a new Max plan for our power users. The new plans replace credits with industry-standard daily and weekly quotas. For the majority of users, this will be enough to fully cover all agent usage. If you’re a paying subscriber, your price isn't changing, and we're including a free extra week to try the new system before you commit.
