@RealJimChanos Big difference: during 1999-2000, money was spent laying fiber that wasn't needed for yrs. Today, money is spent on data ctrs that are struggling the to keep up with endless demand for more compute.

Gotta love the talking heads on FinTV claiming the current market is different from 1999-2000 because unlike then, there is real earnings growth now. (S&P Operating EPS were up 30% from mid-1998 to mid-2000 because, you know, the Internet buildout!)

@JC_ParetsX Depends on the nature of the bet. Some are predictions of what a stock will do in the next few days or weeks, so about as much of a gamble as playing the stock market. Others, are wagers on the weather or a political outcome, and to me, more pure gambling. So pick your poison.

The only people pretending this isn't gambling are the ones getting paid by the gambling companies. They're not here to help you. They are specifically designing your "investment" apps to take all your money. It's just math.

Unreal math behind prediction markets. 100,000+ Polymarket accounts have LOST nearly $1,000 in the last year. That is almost 2x the amount that MADE $1,000. Tiny group of winners take all the profits. Insane to pretend this isn't "gambling." (h/t @denitsa_tsekova)
