@RapidsJason Meh, they both had a 70% save percentage last season and maybe Hansen’s mistakes go away with regular minutes. Steffen seems to be regressing whereas Hansen is entering GK prime years.

He would make other mistakes though, as we saw in NYC.

Nicholas Hansen needs to start. It’s not like throwing some unproven player in, Hansen has consistently shown that he is an MLS level starter in his 13 apps. Steffen has been poor in the last 8+ months.

@BraidonNourse Yeah to complicate things further, MLS is already using the Off-Field Treatment Rule and Timed Substitution Rule. Those are new to the 26-27 LOTG, but had previously been approved for MLS to trial (beginning with MLS Next Pro in 2022, and MLS in 2024).

Another layer to Miguel Navarro's second yellow: VAR can't look at second yellows, but the IFAB intends to change that starting this summer. That call is looked at and probably overturned if this game is in July.
Rapids can appeal if they choose, to my understanding.

Orlando is on track to concede 124 goals this season.
Cincinnati holds the MLS record with 75 (2019), followed by Orlando (74-2018, and Minnesota/San Jose (71-2018)

Maybe recency bias but Lucas Herrington might be a more impressive player than Moise Bombito was for COL, and that’s crazy considering Bombito was fantastic, several years older, from North America, and set an MLS outgoing transfer record for a defender.

Nolan Anderson, 20, is a GK who joins after spending last season in Spain. He is a former U17 USYNT player.
Robinson Aguirre, 21, is a midfielder who previously played for Rapids 2 and was a consistent contributor for them.

@LosRapids96 Probably means Steffen will be injured longer than anticipated and they didn’t want to burn all of Campagnolo’s short term loans this early on. Maybe send Beaudry back out in a few weeks or summer.

@ProspectsUsmnt Hansen is one of the best backups in MLS, full stop. If it wasn’t for a guy named Steffen making $1m annually, Hansen would be competing for the starting spot.

Yesterday would’ve been a good time for Rapids to start Zack Campagnolo (‘07). Instead they passed him up for Nico Defreitas Hansen.
Don’t wanna hear he’s too young when they gave Beaudry (same age as ZC is now) chances a year older. Plenty of MLS GK’s have gotten U-19 starts.

Notes from training:
- It was REALLY windy.
- Wells makes them run A LOT. Wells first one on the field.
- Ali Fadal was with R2. Otherwise all first teamers accounted for. Diop and Aquino from R2 with first team.
- Had a good chat with Keegan. Said team's focused after Sunday.

Decent last 30. I think opinions would be better if that was the full 90.
However, I think it’s clear we need changes to the XI. Cobb and Atencio were very poor. Cannon was fine, but KJR seemed better

I don’t think we should worry about the Rapids after game 1, in Seattle, with a new head coach, in the pouring rain, that has been absolutely crazy in every way. I don’t care the tactics look crazy and terrible rn, I think we need to see how it looks on a different night.

@JDSportsfan85 Besides strikers or goalkeepers, none of those teams seem to have objectively good players. And ST and GK are the two positions we are actually set at.

@JDSportsfan85 I mean they’re not winning MLS cup but go look at rosters for Houston, Austin, Dallas, St Louis, Salt Lake, Kansas City and San Jose and try to tell me they are considerably better. That’s 9 teams in the West that seem to have poor rosters so it’s all even

After an HOUR of play, it is mercifully halftime. 1-0, Rusnak.
For as bad as that first 20 minutes was, could have been worse. Playing out of the back was bad. Rapids benefit from VAR twice, goal called off, red card reversed. They're fouling a bunch. Thoughts? #Rapids96
