Partially true. If the movie is not specifically filmed with IMAX camera technology there is no reason to spend so much and watch them in IMAX screens.

Marvel isn’t worried about ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ not being in IMAX theaters and here’s why you shouldn’t either. Dolby is just better image and audio quality. If you want that OLED brightness and color like on an iPhone, you’ll only get it in Dolby Cinema. Dolby Cinema screens are also different sizes based on location so you may have a larger sized (70 ft) Dolby screen near you. Inversely, IMAX has many smaller screens (33-50ft) based on location.
