@Stretchedwiener My high school was in two different buildings and there was an outside path and a sort of hallway for inclement weather. The non smokers almost always took the outside because the smokers always took the hallway. This was in the late 90s.

Areas did exist, because students like to hang out together. No, there weren't rooms or "lounges" inside the buildings. This post starts with a truth and ends with a mistruth. My school did have an exterior shed, because of winters. But it wasn't a "lounge" - it just kept the snow off and the wind from blasting.
