Sometimes, all it takes is to find kindred souls to feel like the world is an amazing place.

Honored by your kind words, Andy! You nailed the intent; in many ways this is an exploration in a more scalable way to teach interface design, after my experience apprenticing many in 1:1 formats. I’ve got some interesting ideas for a more interactive, game-like collection I hope to add later this year that takes things even further!

I've often complained that interface design lacks great textbooks—still mostly taught through apprenticeship and trial/error. @joshpuckett's new interfacecraft.dev is shaping up to be a great resource, particularly for polish and craft. The step-by-step UI crit/redesigns are a really nice format. Interesting to imagine structuring material like that as Figma artboard sequences, so the student could try each step themselves before revealing the author's take (in the style of andymatuschak.org/doing-centric/)

The last time Dawn presented at GTP, she predicted that LLM-equipped attackers vs LLM-equipped defenders would be happening sooner than later, and everything would be happening faster. If you've been tracking the news for the last 6mo.. and that's exactly what's happening I am now torn between looking forward to what she shares on Monday, and being afraid 😅 See folks soon!

@emollick Even as we find ways to take AI, the most interesting use cases are still on the edge of what is possible!

People who used GPT-3 in weird ways (like James) before ChatGPT have generally had more perspective on where this is all going x.com/jamescham/stat…

@emollick One of my favorite parlor games right now is going to GPT-3 and asking it to write a one-scene play between two historical figures. It is consistently entertaining (and basically free!). Here’s an example:

One of the advantages of being an early user of LLMs is that I have seen The Curve with my own eyes (like in this post before ChatGPT or the term Generative AI). I notice recent AI users & companies adopting AI anchoring on recent capabilities as if they are stable. Probably not
Ethan Mollick@emollick

I think most people who are not playing with these technologies are way underestimating the speed of advancement in "creative" AIs & how much of an impact that is going to have on many jobs, soon. AI language & art models are growing at 10x a year. Beyond Moore's Law pacing. 1/

Idea for @Apple : You should be able to put your macbook or ipad next to your headless mac mini & it would instantly pair and let you use your laptop display & mouse

@jamescham Hah, well that explains why I can’t find it! 🤣 Sorry! Like a leyboard peddle but you can use it to activate dictation like Wispr Flow hands free. Going to give one a try.

@jamescham I could have sworn I saw a tweet from you about buying a USB foot pedal recently, and I can't find it for the life of me... Which model did you get?

Interestingly, my leading edge friends who aren’t allowed to use OpenClaw in their companies are just using it with their kid’s now orphaned laptops...

@work_matters I hope he is eventually wrong but right now there are a whole series of public goods that are rapidly being coopted by bots. The critical thing is that we all admit it is happening so that adventurous people create new solutions!

I know I go on about this, but comments to all of my posts, both here and on LinkedIn, are no longer worth reading at all due to AI bots. That was not the case a few months ago. (Or rather, bad/crypto comments were obvious, but now it is only meaning-shaped attention vampires)
