An objectively wild career move and one I couldn’t be happier with or prouder of. The world needs more local reporters more than it needs more national ones and even if I go back to national reporting one day, I’ll be a much better reporter for this experience.

I was wondering why this guy disappeared from politics Twitter. Voluntarily going from NBC political reporter to editor of a regional newspaper covering a population of roughly 150k people seems like a wild career move, but if it makes you and your loved ones happy, go for it.

Here, I've made a handy venn diagram to understand phone weather apps 😅 If you're using Google or Apple default weather - it'll be gorgeous, but unfortunately it's not even close to accurate The big ones, like Weather Channel and Accuweather have such ugly apps... but at least the data is actually good Carrot weather on iOS might be the only actually good one right now? RIP to Dark Sky, the original king

Last weekend was my first time in the Pacific Northwest, and I’d drop everything to go back. Caught this driving through the North Cascades — probably my favorite photo of the trip. The trees, the mountains, it’s insane how beautiful it is.

Even today, it's frankly not that different for me on a DSLR. I rarely use the rear monitor in the field, except to tag photos during sports. It's still just "this is working" or "this isn't working," but I don't *really* know until on a computer looking at each frame.

I shot film in college, then my first 2 years at newspapers. I'd already know ahead of time if I had a good sequence in my roll, but the big question was if there was a singular frame in there, where the composition, lighting, and emotion came together.

One thing I hadn’t thought about, in terms of the mechanics of film photography, is you have no idea until you develop these that you had just dunked from the foul line. How crazy did a newsroom go when one of their boys got one of these developed

In addition to the AAC's event, the Mazamas have their Intermediate Climbing School multi-pitch weekend, along with all of the other fall climbers at Smith right now. Tons of folks there this weekend.
