I'm launching an inquiry with @SenAlexPadilla on the alarming actions by ICE at San Francisco International Airport. We must know what immigration data TSA is sharing with ICE and why. The last thing we need are more scenes like the one we witnessed last week. ICE agents shouldn't be at our airports.

It's ridiculous that NASA is launching a mission around the Moon this week that will send humans farther into space than ever before and it's getting almost no attention. A landmark moment in the history of our species. History books will care about this moment even if you don't.

@RogerGeissler @Emilyaustin I actually went to an anti-Nixon protest in Chicago in 1974. It was the whole Watergate thing mainly. We booed him and flipped him off. But I never thought of him as a king, just someone I didn't like politically -- although not personally -- he was a respectable person.

@jonwurl @Emilyaustin I recently saw footage of a protest in the early 1970s and the demonstrators said the exact same thing about Nixon (“He thinks he’s a king!”) so I realized it’s just part of the playbook.

@RickOehling @Emilyaustin I haven't read it, probably good. I do know a lot about that period of history. But of the 1000 or so affluent retirees lining that street, how many of THEM were thing in the terms of 18th century colonial political philosophy. I'll bet none.

@jonwurl @Emilyaustin In the meantime I'm reading Richard Hofstadter's America at 1750: A Social Portrait and recalling/discovering the innumerable reasons why we opted for no more kings. I find Hofstadter a lot more compelling than researching retirement communities and political slogans.

@CAgovernor Pardon me while I don't hold my breath for the DMV online fiasco to be fixed. I help seniors fix this, no thanks to the developers overwhelming incompetence. Local DMV agents send confused seniors to me because they also know the system sucks.

BTW I am on the trail of figuring out why -- check out the video of The Villages retirement community, where they unironically lined the streets with their golf carts.

What did the No Kings protesters accomplish? Serious Question

@JessicaTarlov I think this statistic needs to control for the weather.

Republicans can mock the No Kings protests all the want, but the reality is it just grew from 6 million to 8 million people in a few months. 3,300 rallies in all 50 states, many in suburbs and small towns. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress see the writing on the wall. A record 36 are retiring early. Donald Trump is sitting around 40% approval at best, closer to the low 30s by some measures. When a president is under 50%, their party historically loses an average of 34 seats in Congress. Democrats only need a handful of seats. The energy is real and it is growing.

@MuskyMarmot @Emilyaustin I noticed that myself. Of course here supporters strongly imply those European protests are in support of No Kings. It is shallow and silly and easy to figure out for anyone who cares to do so.

@infantrydort @Suzierizzo1 Long story but as a civilian I knew an excellent and well-respected female C-130 pilot. It is common knowledge that there is not a drop off in excellence because someone is female.
