I grew up a Leftist in a Leftist family. I identified as a Leftist when I voted for Kerry/Obama/HRC. I only started not identifying as a Leftist once I started interacting w/ online DSA/Tankie/"Leftists." I'm but one data point, but maybe that "wing" isn't so great at persuasion.
