11–14U parents talking about “exposure tournaments.” Exposure to who? Who told you college coaches are recruiting middle school players? 11–14U isn’t for recruiting. It’s for learning to throw strikes, barrel balls, and handle failure.

I travel for work. A lot. I was at a steakhouse in Dallas, eating alone at the bar. Next to me was a young guy in a military uniform. He was eating a baked potato and a side salad. Nothing else. He kept eyeing the steaks coming out of the kitchen, then looking at his wallet. I flagged the bartender. "Put his tab on mine," I whispered. "And send him the ribeye. Tell him it’s a mistake from the kitchen." The bartender grinned. "You got it." Ten minutes later, the huge steak landed in front of the kid. "I didn't order this," he said, panicked. "I can't pay for this." "Kitchen messed up," the bartender lied perfectly. "Manager said to eat it or we have to trash it." The kid ate like he hadn't seen food in a week. When he finished, he asked for the check. "Covered," the bartender pointed at me. The kid turned to me. "Sir, I..." "Thank you for your service," I said. "Get home safe." I saw this and it made me think of the enormous gratitude I have for my parents and how they made Christmas so incredibly special for us every year. My parents are gone but those memories remain, which is a tribute to them and inspires me to create same for my family now. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Christmas Eve. My kids are home. Not "kids" anymore. They're adults with their own lives, their own apartments, their own problems I can't fix. But for the next few weeks, they're here. Arguing about what movie to watch. Raiding the fridge. Taking over the living room like they never left. And I'm trying to soak in every second of it. Because I know this doesn't last forever. Eventually they'll pack up and head back to their lives. The house will get quiet again. But right now, tonight, I get to be their dad in the same house where I taught them to ride bikes and helped with homework and worried if I was doing any of it right. Here's what I've learned after years of helping people plan their retirement: You can't get this back. You can recover from a bad investment. You can adjust your withdrawal rate. You can always make more money. But you can't get back the Christmas Eve when your kids came home. So tonight, I'm not checking my phone. I'm not thinking about work. I'm just here. With my kids. Under my roof. For a few more weeks. Merry Christmas Eve. Whatever you're doing tonight, be all the way there.

There are some high schools with better baseball facilities than UTSA. and Patrick Hallmark and his staff have the Roadrunners ranked, and are giving Texas all they can handle. Fundamentals and toughness can trump money, facilities and NIL when the players buy in and are willing to run through the wall for the coaches and each other.

Solon earns split tonight w/game 2 victory over Mount Vernon (5-1). Spartan soph Brady Wick kept the Mustangs off balance all night with a complete game 2-hitter. Kellen Haverback with an RBI triple for MV. Game 2 hamburger was perfectly cooked. MV (3-2) hosts Lisbon tomorrow.
