#ICYMI: The Texas Observer discovered Houston's state-appointed superintendent was moonlighting as a paid consultant for Third Future School, the charter school network he founded.
He canceled the potentially illegal contract when we asked about it. texasobserver.org/mike-miles-moo…

I find it interesting that Mike Morath and TEA say that schools that have failing test scores for a number of years in a row mean the districts are neglecting the schools, and justify the takeover. However, we have years of STAAR test data showing that the scores have been low every year since its inception. Doesn't that mean that Mike Morath and the TEA leaders need to hold themselves accountable? Their neglect is on a larger scale. Why do they still have jobs? We need a TEA takeover and improvement plan.

Serious question, how many other professionals do you know that have to do this?

.@JamesTalarico: For 50 years, the religious right convinced our fellow Christians that the most important issues were abortion and gay marriage—two issues that aren't mentioned in the Bible.
Jesus tells us exactly how we're going to be judged: by feeding the hungry, by healing the sick, and by welcoming the stranger.
Don’t tell me what you believe. Show me how you treat other people, and I’ll tell you what you believe. Jesus gave us two commandments: love God and love neighbor.
There was no exception to that second commandment regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, or religious affiliation.
