Sitting here watching the @OpenAI do the exact same thing @AnthropicAI did a few weeks ago (increase usage, get users hooked, drastically reduce limits, blame users, give credit, further reduce limits) and the same people who just jumped from Anthropic eating it up like a spoon!

@keantech @phpstorm @GeminiApp @keantech Could you clarify whether this is happening in the Gemni Code assist itself or with the Gemini CLI Agent in JetBrains AI Assistant?

I don't know what is up with Gemni Code assist in @phpstorm but it has become slow, dumb, unresponsive, and unusable in the last 2 weeks. It was sooo good. What happened? @GeminiApp

@JetBrainsHelp @phpstorm @GeminiApp It's the Gemini code assistant plugin itself, not the cli. It will run forever. Then stall, spit back it's internal thinking. Flat out just be dumb. I don't think it's an issue with Jetbrains side. I've been having trouble with it since. V 2025.3.2 I think.

So @AnthropicAI loses a 200 million dollar govt contract and all of a sudden usage limits are dropped and restrictions ramp up, @OpenAI signs more deals with govt, resets usage limits because something looked "off". Hmmm weird how that worked out, probably a coincidence.

@freekmurze Thanks for the info, this actually made me not want to try Zed lol. Lose a tons of good features and spend hours setting up scripts? What kind of machine are you running PHPStorm on that it takes any amount of time to open or index a project? That seems like a hardware issue.

I haaaate that AI Companies have become the new cable companies of old. You can't just get this feature, you need this package to have that feature. We need to have 6 subs to different AI providers to cover the features from each we want/need. Sooo, how many AI sub you at now?

Laravel tip. In Scheduled commands or queue jobs, add configurable parameters from the database. Then, non-tech users could tweak them in adminpanel to make changes *without re-deploying the code*. Example in the screenshot.

Using @phpstorm with @GeminiApp code assist for data migration when upgrading Laravel apps and refactoring MySql db's. Explain what you want,It uses tinker to talk to the db, writes the console command, runs the command and updates the rows. What a time saver!!

@jeffrey_way I use it and I've seen its beauty with bootstrap. "Look at my controller and design 4 different landing pages with the information in the controller" a good send for showing demos etc Almost comes out perfect structure wise.

And I’m not trying to shill for traditional monolith frameworks like Laravel and Rails, but I do wonder if it’s the conventions and structure that makes all the difference.

If you haven't had a "wow, that was wildly impressive" moment with AI yet, I don't know how. It's certainly not perfect, and it frequently needs tweaks and refactors, but I've had truly goosebump-worthy results when it practically one shots a new feature.

@laravelbackpack I never use compact, I always use $data['thing'] and then just pass $data to view so I can access $thing in blade
