Newcastle were beaten before a ball was kicked because of their team selection.
1. Let’s react to Howe’s comments - More possession doesn’t mean you were dominant. Everton conceded possession and Newcastle has zero idea - Check every other stat.
2. Play players in their best positions:
Not saying this in hindsight because I said it before the game.
Who in the right mind looks at Joelinton and sees him as a winger.
Who in the right mind looks at Woltemade and sees him as a midfielder.
Could say the same for Gordon.
3. Profiles and partnerships create a winning formula … those 3 profiles DO NOT complement each other one single bit.
Instantly unbalanced and put Newcastle on a negative from minute 1.
Meant Everton got momentum and Newcastle always chasing the game, even when trying to change it.
4. Why do we look at players and talk about what they can’t do rather than what we can do?
“Woltemade can’t press, Gordon can”
Picking Gordon as a striker based on his DEFENSIVE capabilities tells you everything about Newcastle’s season.
I don’t think Howe should go but play to your players strengths, be brave.
More importantly, after games if you get it wrong … take accountability.
I know few individual mistakes, but that selection man. Wow.
To add, huge credit to Everton. Fully deserved their 3 points. You were brilliant

🗣️Eddie Howe: "Extremely frustrating. We worked hard to get back into the game. "Everton aren’t easy to score against, so chasing it took a lot out of us. Then we undo it with avoidable mistakes. The second one especially hurt us. "We were dominant. But those lapses cost us."

@talkSPORT Weird that, considering it was 1-1 in the previous league game.

Marc Guehi is keen on a move to Anfield, but personal terms still to be finalised. Club-to-club talks taking place first out of respect to Steve Parish and due to a long-standing relationship. Liverpool enjoy an excellent relationship with Palace.🔽

Also understand #LFC have chosen to engage with Crystal Palace first out of respect to, and due to their strong relationship with, Steve Parish. Formal or advanced player talks not expected to happen without a club-to-club agreement.🦅

@LukeEdwardsTele Why abandon the type of transfer targets that have got us this far? The proven elite level players are still out of reach for us, and make no sense given our financial standing right now. Mitchell was right in saying the strategy was not fit for purpose last summer.
