Following message is from our dev team: tl;dr: We had a harder time recovering from the network halt this week than our peers due to our validator db corrupting. As of last night (12+ hours ago), our validator is back online (some websites that utilize RPC calls may show us offline, but our local monitors have us at 96.99% and climbing). FTSO and FDC submissions were mostly not affected. To our loyal stakers: 2+ days of the 14 on missed staking rewards will impact you… when next rewards come out, please dm us your pchain address and screenshot of the delta in rewards from last claim and our dev team will reimburse you. To our peers: Sounds too cliché to use words like lessons learned, but here’s some obvious advice: 1.) If the network becomes unhealthy for everyone, don’t try to get too curious. We were trying to find if we could find the root cause within our nodes and believe the corruption resulted from disabling staking and restarting the validator. 2.) If you’re hosting in the cloud, consider the proximity where you store your backups. Our on-prem servers held our backups and we quickly discovered that our uploads speeds were a huge bottleneck for a speedy recovery — in the foreseeable future we will be syncing to a s3 bucket via s5cmd for quick transfer into ec2 — we can make available to our peers if any suffers a similar fate and if we like you, maybe we’ll absorb the transfer cost 3.) Uncorrupting a node’s leveldb is challenging to say the least, but it’s not impossible — we have done it a few years ago on an SGB observer node. If we ever get the time, we’d like to experiment with building some utilities/scripts to release to FTSOs in future to unfuck the .ldb’s/manifests as a tool of last resort. 4.) important: If this happens to your validator, do you know about state-sync since avax 1.7.11? Check it out if not — If u don’t need rpc you are much better off blowing away database and state-sync will get you back up mining blocks in 3-6 hours.. wish we did that first. Onwards @FlareNetworks
