@ColborneGreg @alleria_eh Why? It's a very safe seat in a by election. Voters of all parties felt confident of its outcome. Libs put more attn to the Terrebonne seat. Generally, when there's disatisfaction, you see votes against the governing party. e.g. Toronto-St. Pauls. That definitely did not happen.

@lilsugarshack @alleria_eh How do you explain the difference in turnout between the three, when two are within 5 thousand votes, but Uni-Rosedale dropped by 24,000 votes (the main loss)? 19% drop vs 20% drop vs 61% drop?

@ColborneGreg @alleria_eh No, lower turnout by all voters occurs when a by election is considered a safe seat - which Uni-Rosedale is. But, the liberal took a significantly larger segment of the vote than her predecessor did just a year ago, and CPC and NDP were at a deficit.

@lilsugarshack @alleria_eh Opposition voter turnout is often lower in ridings that are considered safe for the ruling party. Byelections also have lower voter turnout. Terrebonne and Scarborough are in line with that difference. University-Rosedale however indicates that voters there is dissatisfied

@ColborneGreg @alleria_eh Bi elections have lower turn out. That is to be expected. However, Martin got a signicantly higher margin than Freeland did a year ago, with about 64% of the vote. CPC lost 2 pts and the NDP lost even more, moving to 3rd in the riding.

I proudly voted Conservative this morning. After 11 years of Liberal government, Canada has the worst food inflation of the G7, the only shrinking economy in the G7, and out-of-control crime in our streets. Canada cannot afford any more Liberal decline. It's time for a change.

The Carney Liberals did not win a majority government through a general election or today's by-elections. Instead, it was won through backroom deals with politicians who betrayed the people who voted for them. While the Prime Minister spent the year on this cynical power grab, he has doubled the deficit, and given Canada the worst grocery prices and housing costs in the G7. Liberals expect Canadians to give up, get complacent and go away, so Carney can have total power without any accountability. That will not happen. Our country and its people are worth fighting for. We will continue to fight for people to afford homes, food and fuel. We will continue to fight for safety in our streets. We will continue to fight for our resource workers and soldiers. I will continue to lead that fight every day and in every way in Parliament, across the country and in the next election, when Canadians will reclaim the country we know and love.

Just watched @MarkJCarney's speech to the Liberal convention yesterday. A few thoughts: 1. Sovereignty is the organizing principle. Everything else flows from it. Trade diversification, defense spending, Buy Canadian, internal trade - these aren't separate files. They're facets of a single argument that Canada must stop being dependent on anyone, starting with the United States.
