I will remind Slot that Liverpool had 7 days of rest before the Forest game and that first half was one of our worst in the whole season, outplayed and outrun with no tempo and no chances created. It doesn’t matter if the players get rest or have a tight schedule when they are poorly coached, platformed and motivated - they are shit to often either way.

Of course no one will blame him, but managers like that usually want a pre season or more months left of the season to implement his ideas, he might feel disadvantaged with so little time and the thirst for immediate results. And it sounds so far like Xabi wants to make his mind up in the summer, so I don’t think we get him now even if we try.

The best thing about international breaks is that we don’t have to watch this embarrassing Liverpool team for 2 weeks or hear from the insipid gaslighter of a head coach.

This team needs a new coach and that’s nothing new, it’s been obvious since October. But this was truly the final nail in the coffin for Slot, to not be able to use the Gala performance as a springboard and instead capitulating like today is so damning.
Given the flat cowards we are away from home I fear for us against City and PSG if Slot is not replaced during the international break. It’s not ideal for someone to come in this late but the situation is untenable, something has got to give.

We were due to concede against Brighton more than once, both teams created around 3,0xG in the two Anfield games this season but it was 5-0 to Liverpool before this game. But this is such bad performance, Gala was just another false dawn and away from home we’re truly awful all the way through the team, nothing works.

Gakpo should thrive more as an inside forward as part of a two, he’s no Salah of course but this system will get him into more central and dangerous areas and he can make disguised runs into the box more often. It’s a role he’s played at times in the Dutch national team. Off the ball work needs to be way better than it usually is with him though.

Agree that Szobo is best as a midfielder but seriously, he has also without a doubt shown himself to be one of the best RB:s in the league, and he’s certainly Liverpool’s best RB by some distance. People have been lamenting the lack of Trent’s passing from that position and Szobo is the only one close to replicating that. Then you have his crosses from out wide that are absolutely world class. He’s simply elite in alot of positions.

All of the great individual performances last Night boils down to Slot ditching the passive approach for real intensity and pressing. It created an environment that suits these players and created so many regains where brilliant players like Wirtz could cause havoc on the ball. When the team controls and dominates space and not just the possession this is what is possible with this squad.
