The idea that The Times would let @christinalamb come anywhere near the story of 10/7 after her outlandish stories were fully debunked last time suggests a lack of editorial oversight and accountability that would make even the NYT blush.

@katewillett Well, I would phrase it differently. I would say socialists are most concerned about whether housing meets their aesthetic criteria in order for people to be allowed to live in it. YIMBY's only criteria is that people are able to live in it.

These are basically boarding houses that were run out of business by zoning laws and selective enforcement against them. It’s a case where the Abundance book is on point: we should bring these back, and neighbors absolutely are an obstacle to that. A little anecdote in the replies…

My impression is that a lot of younger millennials and gen z are interested in the Neo-pastoral lifestyle , so I encourage them to do a summer as a farm hand and discover if running a dairy operation in the sticks is what they want out of life.

Cities should be allowed to build housing for adults like this. We do it for hostels, and it can serve as "housing of last resort." Very cheap rent, by the bed. There'd have to be strictly enforced rules if paired with strangers, but it's not impossible.

How do people feel about SROs? My only experience was living in the Uptown neighborhood of Chicago for a couple of years, which has a few SROs, and I gotta say they didn’t seem to help the neighborhood appeal to middle class families.
