It is utterly despicable to block a hospital from buying fuel.
It is worse to do that and then try to pretend Hasan Piker (or me and Jeremy Corbyn, apparently) is somehow responsible for the precise policy Trump is implementing and Fox News and Bari Weiss are cheering.
Trump is blocking hospitals from getting fuel and slowly killing people as a result. Sometimes quickly killing people. What we saw is horrifying and if you support it you are a monster.

Luxury hotels are either ran by the state, which are sanctioned or owned by foreign companies.
Plenty of small hotels are available in Havana (Casas), those proceeds would go DIRECTLY to Cuban families.

Dumb criticism. People like @hasanthehun aren't in Cuba on holiday; they're in Cuba because the US blockade has intensified and is strangling the island. They're making sure the island is on the minds of Americans, because as soon as Trump is done with Iran, he's turning to Cuba.

I believe there is a fetishization aspect of these western leftist human safari tours to authoritarian regimes that should not be overlooked. From Venezuela, Iran to now Cuba, western leftists enter these spaces in a privileged bubble, often staying in luxury hotels while being chauffeured around by government minders who only show the best of the country and introduce them to locals who perform an existence the regime wants to showcase. To the western leftist, this only reinforces their already held ideological fantasies of what an “anti-Western or anti-imperialist” utopia is supposed to be, while simultaneously erasing the reality of everyday repression and hardship (something that has been well documented for years). This trip has nothing to do with solidarity or standing with the oppressed, it is simply leftist fantasy play.

You go to Cuba, you see the suffering, you see the blackouts, you see people living in the dark… and you blame America. Think of that. Not a word about the communist dictatorship that's held that island hostage for 65 years. Not one word. Over 1,200 political prisoners sitting in Cuban jails right now. Last week protesters in Morón stormed Communist Party headquarters shouting "freedom" and "down with the dictatorship"… the regime arrested dozens of them. But that's not in your post, is it? The Cuban government's own deputy foreign minister just admitted on television that political prisoners exist but they won't even discuss releasing them. Beautiful people, tremendous resilience… being crushed by their own government. And you flew home, posted your photos, and blamed the United States. The people banging pots in Havana every night are chanting "down with Díaz-Canel." Maybe listen to them.

Out of Cuba now otw home and finally have access to the internet I’m having a hard time putting into words the thoughts I have on my experience there the past couple days. The level of cruelty that the oil blockade the US imposes on the day-to-day lives of everyday Cubans cannot be overstated. Everyday conveniences and essential services that we take for granted are completely non-existent. Entire systems, that were already dilapidated by decades of sanctions and restrictions from participating globally, start to break down exponentially when you remove fuel from the equation. The innovation required to accomplish the most basic tasks is astounding. People existing at night in complete darkness from the blackouts, just trying their best to lead normal lives in spite of the lack of power. Yet every Cuban person I met was extremely kind, patient, and welcoming. The resilience the people of the island have is extremely admirable and heartbreaking to witness. Cuba is a beautiful place with amazing people and insane potential. What the US has done to that island is shameful and nothing short of inhumane
